'Zero Day' Cast and Character Breakdown: Meet the Stars of Netflix’s Political Thriller

Robert De Niro takes the lead in Zero Day, a Netflix political thriller where he plays a former U.S. president tasked with heading a commission to uncover those responsible for a devastating cyberattack that has claimed thousands of lives. The series follows his character’s unraveling discovery of widespread deception and conspiracies.

This limited series, which debuts February 20, was created by Eric Newman ("Griselda") and Noah Oppenheim ("Jackie"), with Lesli Linka Glatter ("Homeland," "Mad Men," "Love & Death") serving as executive producer and director of all six episodes. De Niro, Michael S. Schmidt, and Jonathan Glickman also executive produce the show.

George Mullen (Robert De Niro)
De Niro portrays George Mullen, a popular yet complex former president who is pulled from retirement to lead the Zero Day Commission investigating a global cyberattack. De Niro’s legendary career includes iconic roles in Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Godfather Part II, Goodfellas, Killers of the Flower Moon, and more.

Evelyn Mitchell (Angela Bassett)
Bassett plays Evelyn Mitchell, the current U.S. president, a sharp political strategist who recruits Mullen for the commission. Bassett is known for Black Panther, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Waiting to Exhale, 9-1-1, and American Horror Story.

Roger Carlson (Jesse Plemons)
Jesse Plemons stars as Roger Carlson, Mullen’s former aide and a skilled fixer hoping to regain political influence. Plemons’ credits include The Power of the Dog, Breaking Bad, The Irishman, Fargo, and Love & Death.

Alexandra Mullen (Lizzy Caplan)
Lizzy Caplan portrays Alexandra Mullen, a young congresswoman trying to carve out her own legacy despite her father's political history. Caplan’s previous work includes Mean Girls, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Masters of Sex, and Party Down.

Valerie Whitesell (Connie Britton)

Sheila Mullen (Joan Allen)

Richard Dreyer (Matthew Modine)
Matthew Modine plays Richard Dreyer, a seasoned public figure and politician who serves as Speaker of the House. Modine is known for Full Metal Jacket, Stranger Things, Oppenheimer, Weeds, and Birdy.

Evan Green (Dan Stevens)
