Alana Maria King (born 22 November 1995) is an Australian cricketer who represents her country internationally and plays domestically for Western Australia in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) and the Perth Scorchers in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). An all-rounder, King bowls right-arm leg spin and bats right-handed. Previously, she played for Victoria and Melbourne Stars.
Early Life: King was born in Clarinda, a Melbourne suburb, to Anglo-Indian parents who emigrated from Chennai, India. She began her sports career with tennis at age five, competing in Tennis Victoria Pennant, and also played for the Monash University Baseball Club and her school softball team. King briefly served as a ball kid at the 2011 Australian Open.
Domestic Career: King signed a rookie contract with VicSpirit at age 16 in 2012 and later joined the Melbourne Stars for the inaugural WBBL season in 2015–16. She advanced to the senior Victoria squad in 2016. In the 2021–22 WBBL season, she was the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets. King joined Trent Rockets in the 2022 Hundred, where she made history by taking the first-ever hat-trick in the competition. She also bowled 10 consecutive dot balls in another match, another milestone in The Hundred's history. In December 2024, she was purchased by the UP Warriorz for the 2025 Women's Premier League.
International Career: In 2019, King was awarded a contract with Cricket Australia's National Performance Squad. She made her debut for Australia in January 2022, initially as a replacement for injured players in the Women's Ashes. Within two weeks, King debuted in all three international formats: Women's T20I, Women's ODI, and Women's Test. She was a crucial part of Australia’s 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup win, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker for her team. Her standout performance in the final, taking 3 wickets for 64 runs against England, helped cement her spot as a key player for Australia. She was also part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold-winning team.
King continued to perform consistently, being named in the Australian squad for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup and the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Additionally, she was selected for the 2025 Women’s Ashes series.
