"Running Point" Cast and Character Guide: Meet the Stars of Netflix’s Basketball Comedy

Kate Hudson takes on her first-ever leading TV role in Netflix's Running Point, a basketball comedy that follows Isla Gordon (Hudson) as she unexpectedly inherits control of her family’s basketball team, the Waves. While the team and storyline are fictional, the series is loosely inspired by Lakers president Jeanie Buss. Here's a look at the key characters in the show.

Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson)
Isla Gordon, the only daughter of the Gordon family, is surprised when her oldest brother hands her the reins to the Waves. Played by Kate Hudson, known for films like Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, this marks Hudson’s debut as the lead in a TV series.

Ali Lee (Brenda Song)
Ali is Isla’s best friend and trusted assistant. Portrayed by Brenda Song, who is widely recognized for her role as London Tipton on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Song has also appeared in Dollface, The Last Showgirl, and more.

Cam Gordon (Justin Theroux)
Cam Gordon, the Waves' president, faces a major setback when his drug addiction leads to a car accident and rehab. Justin Theroux, known for The Leftovers, plays Cam. He recently appeared in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Ness Gordon (Scott MacArthur)
Ness is Isla’s brother and the GM of the Waves. Scott MacArthur, best known for his role in The Mick, as well as appearances in The Righteous Gemstones and No Hard Feelings, plays Ness.

Sandy Gordon (Drew Tarver)
Sandy, the Waves' CFO, is another of Isla’s siblings. Drew Tarver, known for The Other Two and Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, stars as Sandy and has also appeared in Unfrosted on Netflix.

Jackie Moreno (Fabrizio Guido)
Jackie, the youngest member of the Gordon family, is searching for a sense of belonging. Fabrizio Guido, who has appeared in Mr. Iglesias and Perry Mason, plays Jackie.

Lev Levy (Max Greenfield)
Lev is Isla’s supportive fiancé. Max Greenfield, best known for his role as Schmidt in New Girl and currently starring in The Neighborhood alongside Beth Behrs, plays Lev.

Jay Brown (Jay Ellis)
Jay is the Waves' coach, though his future with the team is uncertain. Jay Ellis, known for his roles in Insecure and Somebody I Used to Know, portrays Jay.

Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks)
Travis Bugg is a talented but troubled star player on the Waves, battling both an ego and a drug problem. Played by Chet Hanks, the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Travis is a key character in the series. Hanks is also known for his roles in Empire and Your Honor.

Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman)
Marcus is another standout player on the Waves, potentially eclipsing Travis Bugg in popularity. Toby Sandeman, seen in Power Book III: Raising Kanan and The Royals, portrays Marcus.

Charlie (Scott Evans)
Charlie is Sandy’s boyfriend, though their relationship faces challenges, particularly in public settings. Scott Evans, brother of Chris Evans, plays Charlie. He’s appeared in Barbie, Grace and Frankie, and more.

With an all-star cast, Running Point is a fresh, comedic look at the world of basketball, family dynamics, and personal growth.
