Kat Timpf Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis While Announcing the Birth of Her Son
Fox News’ Kat Timpf revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer just hours before giving birth to her first child. Timpf took to social media on Tuesday with what she described as an "unconventional birth announcement."
"Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before going into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer," Timpf shared on X. "Now, before you worry, my doctor says it’s Stage 0 and is confident it hasn’t spread. Or, as I’ve told the few people I’ve told so far: Don’t freak out. It’s just a little bit of cancer."
Timpf went on to explain the chaotic day she experienced: "It was not a chill day, to say the least! I woke up more than a week past my due date, consumed by getting the baby out. By the afternoon, I was attending appointments about how to deal with my cancer. They suggested a double mastectomy as soon as possible. I asked if I could get a copy of the tumor ultrasound to hang next to my baby’s ultrasound on the fridge. Later that night, I found myself in spontaneous labor, crawling around on the floor of my apartment before heading to the hospital to meet my son."
The author and comedian humorously praised hospital staff for being “excellent audiences for dark humor.” She joked, "Just minutes after my son was born, I was discussing with the nurses what my birth announcement would look like. Should I say, 'Mom and baby are doing well, except for mom’s cancer, and maybe breastfeeding might be stunted by the double mastectomy,' and then shut off my phone for a week?"
Timpf added, "These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d anticipated, and I’m still getting used to my new reality. Still, as I navigate new motherhood (and new cancer), I’m learning to celebrate everything I can. I’m lucky that we found the cancer early, and I’m lucky to be my son’s mom. He absolutely rules – and not just because he might have saved my life. Thank you all for your support, laughter, and love as I embrace this wildly unexpected chapter. Here’s to resilience, miracles in chaos, and finding humor and hope on tough days."
Timpf and her husband, Cameron Friscia, welcomed their son last week. She received overwhelming support from social media, including messages from many Fox News colleagues.
