Will Dave Ever Move Past Lauren’s Past Romance on Love Is Blind Season 8?

Will Dave Ever Move Past Lauren’s Past Romance on Love Is Blind Season 8?

Forget Lauren’s “friend with benefits”—what about Dave’s numerous red flags?

Every season of Love Is Blind brings its fair share of tension, especially as couples near the altar. For Dave Bettenburg and Lauren O’Brien, their seemingly perfect romance took a drastic turn once they returned from their vacation in Mexico. As the season 8 finale approaches, we take a closer look at Dave and Lauren’s relationship, and whether they will make it to the altar or not.

Lauren’s Pre-Show Love Life Stirs Drama
After returning from Honduras and reconnecting with their phones, Dave was flooded with messages from his friends. He learned that Lauren had been involved with one of his acquaintances before entering the pods, which raised doubts about their relationship. In episode 7, Dave questioned, “How do you go from seeing someone so recently to like, ‘I’m ready for marriage?’ That just seems like a huge step in between...That’s tough.”

Lauren tried to reassure Dave, explaining that she had only been in a “friends with benefits” situation prior to the show. She clarified in a confessional, “I was talking to someone a couple of months ago, but I wouldn’t have said that I dated them.” She felt that she had no future with him, which made her ready to find her husband in the pods.

Unfortunately, Dave wasn’t convinced by Lauren’s explanation, especially after her former “friend with benefits” began claiming they had hooked up just before filming began.

Lauren’s Ex Defends Himself
Lauren’s ex, Daniel Nides, a 37-year-old lawyer, made waves when he Photoshopped himself into a Love Is Blind poster, a move that sparked speculation about his desire to be on the show. He later spoke out, claiming he had only made the poster to poke fun at the situation and control his own narrative, rather than seeking attention from the show.

Lauren Tries to Understand Dave’s Perspective
Many viewers found Dave’s refusal to accept Lauren’s past relationships problematic, but Lauren had a different take. She told Us Weekly, “I was genuinely torn on who was in the right. I knew my truth, but I was trying to understand Dave’s perspective too.” She added, “You see that a lot because I give him a lot of grace. But I was so in my head that I’m like, ‘Am I the one that’s morally wrong here?’”

Lauren felt a shift in Dave’s attitude when they returned from Mexico, and she didn’t initially realize how significant the drama surrounding her ex had become. However, the support Lauren received after the show aired helped her realize that she had “done nothing wrong.”

Dave Ends the Engagement, Then Doubts His Decision
In episodes 9 and 10, Dave struggled with the fact that Lauren had been casually seeing someone just weeks before entering the pods. This led to issues in their relationship, including Dave’s refusal to introduce Lauren to his family or friends. In episode 11, Dave admitted to Lauren that his friends had been aware of her past connection with her ex, which made him more confused.

Lauren was frustrated, telling Dave, “If you were ready to choose someone else and be a team member with them... this would have been minuscule.” Eventually, Dave told Lauren that he felt he needed to end their relationship, explaining, “My heart thinks it’s the right decision.” In a confessional, Dave admitted, “I’m sad, I’m mad, I’m frustrated. We have such a great connection. I feel like I let her down.”

The next day, Dave approached Lauren, telling her their connection was “real,” but Lauren wasn’t sure if they could move past their issues. The couple didn’t attend the group events and it remains unclear whether they reconciled.

Dave’s Own Red Flags
While Dave focused heavily on Lauren’s past, his own red flags became evident from the moment he entered the pods. In episode 8, during a group meet-up in Honduras, Dave asked several contestants—including Virginia Miller, Monica Danús, and Taylor Haag—about their sexual experiences with their partners. This raised eyebrows among viewers, who questioned why he was asking such personal questions.

Dave also revealed how much he relied on his sister’s opinions throughout the process. He frequently deferred to her when making decisions, which created tension in his relationship with Lauren. She even questioned whether Dave truly loved her, as he seemed more concerned about his sister’s feelings than his relationship with her.

Despite these red flags, Dave later expressed gratitude for his time with Lauren, posting a carousel of Love Is Blind photos on Instagram with the caption, “No one I would’ve rather shared these moments with.” Whether Dave and Lauren will work through their issues remains to be seen in the season 8 finale, which will be available on Netflix on March 7.
