Report' of Rob Gronkowski Un-Retiring Hits a Major X Community Note

A recent rumor about former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski potentially coming out of retirement was quickly debunked.

The speculation was fun for a brief moment, but as reality set in, NFL fans questioned why the 35-year-old, who hasn’t played since 2021, would consider making a comeback.

Was Gronkowski upset that Travis Kelce broke his single-season tight end receiving yards record? Or maybe he was growing tired of his career as a media personality? Perhaps he was contemplating returning in 2025 to reunite with Tom Brady—this time with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The rumor was sparked by a tweet from Broncos beat reporter Cecil Lammey of Denver Sports 104.3 The Fan. However, Lammey’s claim was quickly shot down with a X community note, which fact-checked and dismissed the story.

“This is not true,” the note stated, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adding a tweet that simply said, "Nope. Nonsense."

OutKick’s Armando Salguero also debunked the rumor, calling it a hoax.

Lammey attempted to defend his report by stating, “[Gronk] worked with Sean Payton at Fox & I’m told he loves Denver & QB Bo Nix. (2 of his brothers, Dan and Chris, had short stints with the team).”

However, there was no solid evidence or real momentum behind the idea of Gronkowski making a return to the NFL, and the speculation eventually fizzled out. Of course, Gronk has retired and come back before, but this time, the rumor didn’t gain any traction.

In the end, it seems clear that this was just another baseless story—and perhaps a sign that Lammey isn’t a fan of Adam Trautman.
