Katy Perry, Gayle King, and Lauren Sanchez to Join Blue Origin’s All-Women Space Flight

Pop star Katy Perry, CBS journalist Gayle King, and Lauren Sanchez, fiancée of Jeff Bezos, will be part of Blue Origin's upcoming all-women space mission. The high-profile crew will make history as the first all-female crew in six decades to travel into space aboard Blue Origin’s rocket.

In a 2023 Vogue interview, Sanchez shared her excitement about joining the entirely female crew, describing the women as “extraordinary” and “leading the way for women” in space exploration.

The all-women crew will also include Perry, Sanchez, King, producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, CEO of STEMBoard, and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen.

Blue Origin confirmed in a blog post that these remarkable women will travel aboard the New Shepard rocket, part of the company’s space tourism initiative.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket is designed to offer paying passengers a brief yet thrilling journey to the edge of space. The approximately 11-minute trip allows passengers to experience weightlessness as the capsule crosses the Karman line, an imaginary boundary marking the edge of space, nearly 100 kilometers (62 miles) above sea level.

Jeff Bezos himself made his first flight into space in July 2021, alongside three other passengers, including Good Morning America’s co-host Michael Strahan and Star Trek actor William Shatner.

Since 2021, Blue Origin has flown tourists on short space hops, with some passengers receiving complimentary rides and others paying a significant fee for the experience.

In January, Blue Origin reached a major milestone with the successful launch of its New Glenn rocket, a key step in the company’s expansion into the commercial launch market.
