Could an Oscars upset be on the horizon? The Best Actor category appears to be one of the tightest in recent years, with Timothée Chalamet taking home the SAG Award just a week after Adrien Brody's victory at the BAFTAs.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards have revealed their winners, with the ceremony acting as a major predictor for the Oscars, which are only a week away.

Demi Moore continued her streak of success, winning Best Actress for her performance in the body horror film The Substance, while Timothée Chalamet secured Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

Before this, Adrien Brody had likely been considered the frontrunner for the Oscar for his role in The Brutalist. Now, however, the race has become much closer, and both Chalamet, 29, and Moore, 62, may be on track to win their first Academy Awards.

Following a BAFTA win earlier this month, Conclave, a papal thriller, claimed the top film award for Best Ensemble. The film, starring Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, and Stanley Tucci, revolves around the dramatic process of selecting a new pope.

During the ceremony, Rossellini expressed well-wishes for Pope Francis, who is currently recovering from pneumonia and bronchitis, wishing him “a quick recovery.”

In the supporting categories, Kieran Culkin and Zoë Saldaña continued their award-winning runs, taking home Best Supporting Actor and Actress for their roles in A Real Pain and Emilia Pérez, respectively.

Timothée Chalamet appeared visibly surprised as his name was called for Best Actor, expressing his gratitude on stage: “The truth is, this was five-and-a-half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.” He further emphasized his ambition, saying, “I want to be one of the greats.”

Demi Moore reflected on her long career, recalling how joining SAG-AFTRA as a teenager in 1978 gave her purpose as “a kid on my own who had no blueprint for life.”

At 87, Jane Fonda was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and delivered the evening's most impassioned political speech. “We are in our documentary moment,” she said. “This is it. And it’s not a rehearsal.” Fonda also noted that the word “woke” simply means “you care about others.”

In the television categories, Shogun, a Japanese historical drama, won Best Ensemble, with its stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai taking home Best Actor and Actress awards, respectively. Only Murders in the Building triumphed in the Best Comedy Ensemble category, with Martin Short winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

Jean Smart, who had previously called for the cancellation of awards shows due to the LA wildfires in January, was awarded Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks, though she did not attend, offering a recorded message instead.

In the limited series category, British star Jessica Gunning won Best Actress for Baby Reindeer, while Irish actor Colin Farrell was named Best Actor for The Penguin.
