Zendaya Joins ‘Shrek 5’ Cast as Shrek and Fiona’s Daughter

Zendaya is heading to the swamp! The highly sought-after actress has joined the voice cast of Shrek 5 as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).

Universal and DreamWorks, the studios behind the beloved animated series, revealed the news alongside a teaser. In the clip, Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek’s loyal companion, asks the Magic Mirror, “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?” The Mirror, which hails from Snow White, responds with a surprising answer: “Why, Shrek! Of course.”

However, this Magic Mirror has a modern twist, showing off various Gen Z-inspired looks of Shrek, sparking different reactions from Felicia (“Ew, dad!”) and Fiona (“Oooh, Mommy like”). Shrek then asks, “Who is making this stuff?” before Pinocchio appears and lies, declaring, “Not me!”

Back in 2017, Zendaya tweeted, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood,” and in response to her casting, Shrek’s official social media shared her tweet, commenting, “This aged well.”

Shrek 5 is set for release on December 23, 2026, marking 25 years since the original Shrek film debuted. The 2001 movie, which offered a unique take on the classic “Happily Ever After” story through the perspective of a misunderstood ogre and his eccentric group of fairytale friends, became an instant hit with nearly $500 million worldwide and won the first-ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It led to three sequels — Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010) — as well as the Puss in Boots spinoff series.

Veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, who have worked on multiple Shrek films, are directing the fifth installment. Dohrn contributed as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek 3, and served as head of story and voiced Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After. Vernon directed Shrek 2 and voiced the Gingerbread Man.

Zendaya, an Emmy Award winner for Euphoria, has a packed schedule ahead, including Christopher Nolan’s star-studded The Odyssey, the fourth Spider-Man movie alongside Tom Holland, and Euphoria Season 3. Recent projects also include Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune:
