Pokémon Presents Unveils Pokémon Champions, a Multiplayer Battle-Focused Game
During the Pokémon Presents stream on Pokémon Day 2025, Nintendo revealed Pokémon Champions, a new multiplayer game centered around Pokémon battles. Unlike the traditional Pokémon games, which focus on catching and collecting, Pokémon Champions will emphasize strategic battles.
The game will be available for both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Pokémon Champions will integrate with Pokémon Home, allowing players to transfer Pokémon from previous games, as well as the ones they capture in Champions. However, not all Pokémon will be available at launch, with more expected to be added through regular updates over time.
The game is being developed by The Pokémon Works, a team formed in March 2024 by The Pokémon Company and ILCA to support the development of Pokémon games and related services.
While the concept of battle-focused Pokémon games is exciting, it isn’t the first time Nintendo has attempted such a project. Previously, Pokémon Battle Revolution was released, offering a more battle-centric experience but received criticism for lacking the exploration and role-playing elements fans wanted. Additionally, the game's online features were limited, leading to a repetitive experience.
Pokémon Champions is still in development, with no official release date announced during the stream.
