Sachin Bansal Steps Down as CEO of Navi Group, Takes Executive Chairman Role

Sachin Bansal Steps Down as CEO of Navi Group, Takes Executive Chairman Role

Sachin Bansal, co-founder of Navi Group, has stepped down from his position as CEO of Navi Technologies and Navi Finserv. Rajiv Naresh and Abhishek Dwivedi, who are currently vice presidents at Navi, have been appointed as the new CEOs of Navi Technologies and Navi Finserv, respectively.

Bansal will now serve as the executive chairman of Navi Group, a position that allows him to focus on guiding the company’s overall vision. In a statement, he said, “Holding the position of executive chairman also allows me to dedicate my efforts to guiding the overall vision of Navi Group.”

The restructuring is part of an initiative to enhance the group's performance and is not a response to any challenges, as per a statement from Navi. This move follows an incident in October when Navi Finserv faced a ban by the Reserve Bank of India on disbursing new loans due to concerns around their loan pricing practices. The ban was lifted in December after the company made necessary adjustments.

The New CEOs

Both Naresh and Dwivedi joined Navi in 2019, with Naresh initially serving as director of legal and later as chief of staff to the CEO, before advancing to VP. As CEO of Navi Technologies, he will now oversee all non-lending business operations within Navi Group. Dwivedi has held several positions across Navi Group, including head of human resources, chief operating officer of Navi General Insurance, and head of strategy and business operations. As CEO of Navi Finserv, he will lead the lending business.

Bansal expressed confidence in the new leadership, stating, "Both Rajiv and Abhishek have played key roles in our growth, and I am confident that we will continue on this upward trajectory as they assume their new roles."

In his new role, Bansal will focus on long-term strategic objectives, expansion opportunities, fundraising, and mergers and acquisitions.

This transition comes after Bansal's exit from Flipkart in 2018, following the company's acquisition by Walmart, which earned him $1 billion from the sale of his shares. The Navi Group represents his latest entrepreneurial venture

India Reduces Tariffs on American Bourbon Whiskey from 150% to 50%

India Reduces Tariffs on American Bourbon Whiskey from 150% to 50%

India has significantly reduced the import duty on America's popular bourbon whiskey, slashing it from 150% to 50%. This move, announced by the Department of Revenue on February 13, comes just ahead of a crucial meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, where trade and tariffs were major topics of discussion.

In preparation for the bilateral talks, India has signaled a willingness to negotiate trade deals with the US by implementing major tariff cuts on several American products, including bourbon whiskey. The customs duty reduction, a 66.6% drop, applies exclusively to bourbon whiskey, while other imported alcoholic beverages will continue to face a 100% import duty. However, a 50% agricultural cess, imposed under the Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC), will also apply to bourbon.

American bourbon whiskey, which accounts for approximately 25% of all liquor imports into India, is a key player in the market. In 2023-24, India imported bourbon worth USD 2.5 million, with the US leading exports at USD 0.75 million, followed by the UAE, Singapore, and Italy.

During a press conference ahead of his meeting with PM Modi, President Trump praised the Indian leader, calling him a "great leader" and stating that "we're going to make some wonderful trade deals for India and the US." After their bilateral talks, the two leaders held another press conference where trade was again a central topic. When asked who was the tougher negotiator, Trump humorously remarked, "He (PM Modi) is a much tougher negotiator than me. He is a much better negotiator than me. There is not even a contest."

A joint statement issued by both nations revealed plans to more than double the two-way trade to USD 500 billion by 2030, with the intention to create a bilateral trade agreement aimed at reducing duties and improving market access on both sides.

What Is Bourbon Whiskey?

Bourbon is a type of American whiskey primarily made from corn, known for its mild, sweet taste. It is aged in charred oak barrels and must contain at least 51% corn to achieve its signature flavor. Like Scotch whiskey, which is restricted to production in Scotland, bourbon must be made in the United States.

In 1964, the US Congress officially recognized bourbon as a "distinctive product of the United States." The largest bourbon distilleries are located in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Popular bourbon brands available in India include Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, Gentleman Jack, and Old Forester

'Daveed' Day 1 Box Office Collections: Antony Varghese's Film Opens Strong with Rs 90 Lakhs

Antony Varghese's latest action-packed film Daveed has made an impressive debut at the box office, grossing Rs 90 lakhs on its opening day, Friday, February 14, 2025. Directed by Govind Vishnu, the Malayalam film has been met with positive feedback, especially highlighting the performances of Varghese, Lijomol Jose, and Mo Ismail. With its gripping story of an underdog boxer, Daveed seems poised for a strong weekend performance.

The film's opening collections indicate a promising start. According to reports from Sacnilk, Daveed earned Rs 90 lakhs on its first day, with a Malayalam occupancy rate of 30.18%. Afternoon shows saw the highest turnout at 30.87%, followed by evening shows at 24.57% and morning shows at 16.98%.

Daveed, directed by Govind Vishnu and written by Deepu Rajeevan and Govind Vishnu, stars Antony Varghese alongside Mo Ismail, Lijomol Jose, Vijayaraghavan, Saiju Kurup, and Kichu Tellus in key roles. The film follows a laid-back family man who unexpectedly finds himself in a boxing ring against a world champion, driven by a personal dignity dispute. As he fights for pride, he must also reclaim his lost identity.

With a solid box office start and an engaging storyline, Daveed is expected to maintain its momentum through the weekend.

ETimes has rated the film 3.5 out of 5 stars, noting, “Antony is outstanding as Abu, whose struggles are deeply relatable, while Lijomol Jose brings grace to her role, never overplaying it. Mo Ismail convincingly portrays Sainul Akhmadov, the formidable international boxer. Vijayaraghavan is believable as Ashan, a character inspired by real-life boxing coach Puthalath Raghavan. Child actor Jess Sweejan also impresses as Abu’s daughter. Despite a few missteps, the film remains a worthy watch with grand execution and a compelling narrative. A humorous nod comes when the protagonist’s name, Aashiq Abu, is revealed to be inspired by the director’s favorite filmmaker, Aashiq Abu—leading to a playful media jab in the story.”

Meg Lanning Supports WPL's Decision to Play Across Four Venues; Believes It Won’t Be a Problem

Meg Lanning Supports WPL's Decision to Play Across Four Venues; Believes It Won’t Be a Problem

On the eve of the third edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), all five team captains addressed the media, and Delhi Capitals' skipper, Meg Lanning, expressed her support for the league's decision to host matches at four different venues. Lanning emphasized that players are accustomed to varying conditions in India, and it would not pose a problem for any team.

The 2025 edition of WPL will be held across four venues: Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The tournament will kick off in Vadodara on February 14, with the final set to take place at Brabourne Stadium on March 15.

During the WPL Captain's Huddle hosted by ETV Bharat on Star Sports, Lanning, who represents Australia, shared her thoughts: "It’s exciting to have new venues. It’s important for women’s cricket and the WPL to expand its reach to a broader audience, and we are excited about that."

She added, "Many players have experience playing in different conditions here in India and adapt quickly, so I don’t think it will be an issue for any team. Local players will obviously have a better understanding of the conditions, but this is a great step for the game to engage more fans."

Lanning’s Delhi Capitals, who have reached the finals in both previous editions, will be aiming to go one step further this year, after losing in the finals both times. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural edition, while Royal Challengers Bangalore lifted the title in the second season.

Mumbai Indians’ captain Harmanpreet Kaur also spoke about the WPL's influence on domestic players, noting that the tournament has significantly improved the strike rates of batters in the 2024/25 domestic season. "The strike rates of batters in our domestic cricket this season were much better, and WPL was a big reason for that. Players realized that if they want to compete in this league, they need to focus on their strike rates and power-hitting abilities," said Harmanpreet, known for her aggressive batting.

Other captains, including Smriti Mandhana (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Ashleigh Gardner (Gujarat Giants), and Deepti Sharma (UP Warriorz), also shared their thoughts during the session.

"Love You": Sukesh Chandrasekhar Pens Romantic Letter to Jacqueline Fernandez on Valentine's Day

"Love You": Sukesh Chandrasekhar Pens Romantic Letter to Jacqueline Fernandez on Valentine's Day

Sukesh Chandrasekhar, currently incarcerated in Delhi’s Mandoli jail in connection with a Rs 200 crore extortion case, has written a heartfelt romantic letter to Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez on Valentine's Day. Sukesh, who was rumored to be in a relationship with Jacqueline, addressed her as "baby girl" in the letter, expressing his deep love for her.

He began the letter by writing, “Baby girl, wishing you a very, very Happy Valentine’s Day. This year has started with positivity and special moments for us, and this Valentine’s Day is extra special as we are one step closer to spending all our Valentine’s Days together." He continued, “Before I say more, I want to take a moment to tell you, Jackie, I really, really love you. You are the best Valentine in the world, love you like crazy."

Sukesh went on to reveal that he is gifting Jacqueline a private jet for Valentine’s Day. He mentioned that the jet has her initials on it and that its registration number corresponds to her birthdate.

“Baby, you’re always flying for work shoots, and now with this jet, your travels will be so much easier, at your convenience,” he wrote.

He also addressed any legal concerns surrounding the gift, stating that the jet’s ownership is legitimate and not linked to any alleged proceeds of crime. Sukesh ended the letter with a romantic wish, saying, “On this Valentine’s Day, I have one wish – if there is a re-birth, I want to be born as your heart so I can keep beating inside you. My Bomma, I am the luckiest man on this planet to have the most beautiful, amazing human like you as my Valentine.”

For context, Sukesh Chandrasekhar has been linked to Jacqueline Fernandez through the ongoing investigation into the extortion case, though she has consistently denied any romantic involvement. Jacqueline, an accused in the case, has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate multiple times. In February 2024, she accused Sukesh of using the media to defame her and alleged harassment. She had even requested the court to take action against him, though she later withdrew her plea.

CBSE Board Exam 2025: Key Changes to CBSE Answer Sheets for Classes 10 and 12

CBSE Board Exam 2025: Key Changes to CBSE Answer Sheets for Classes 10 and 12

The CBSE 10th and 12th Board Exams 2025 are set to begin on February 15, 2025. To ensure a fair and secure examination process, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced several significant changes to the CBSE Answer Sheets for 2025, aimed at curbing cheating and preventing unfair practices.

Notable Changes in CBSE Answer Sheets for 2025

To enhance transparency and reduce the chances of malpractices, the CBSE has implemented the following changes:

  1. Introduction of Unique QR Codes: Each student’s answer sheet will now include a unique QR code. This will help track and verify the authenticity of the papers, discouraging any form of cheating.

  2. Revised Question Number Placement: Students are now instructed to write the question numbers only in the margin of the answer sheet, ensuring a clear and consistent format across all answer sheets.

  3. No Writing or Marking on the Question Paper: The CBSE has emphasized that students must not mark or write anything on the question paper. Any rough work must be done exclusively in the margins on the right-hand side of the answer sheet.

  4. Updated Guidelines for Rough Work: Rough work should only be written in the right-hand margin and must be crossed out after completion. This replaces the earlier guideline of drawing a margin for rough work, ensuring cleaner and more organized answer sheets.

  5. Strict Action Against Unfair Practices: The CBSE has made it clear that cheating and the use of electronic devices will result in severe consequences, including the cancellation of exams and a two-year ban on future CBSE exams for those found guilty.

Exam Schedule and Surveillance Measures

The CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 Board Exams 2025 will take place from February 15, 2025, across 204 subjects for nearly 44 lakh students. The Class 10 exams will run from February 15 to March 18, 2025, while the Class 12 exams will be held from February 15 to April 4, 2025.

Additionally, exam centers will be equipped with CCTV cameras and live streaming systems for strict monitoring to ensure exam integrity and prevent malpractices.

Preparation and Compliance

As the exams approach, it is important for students to be aware of these changes in the CBSE Answer Sheets and follow the guidelines strictly to avoid confusion and ensure a smooth examination process. The CBSE remains committed to providing a fair and transparent platform for students to showcase their knowledge and skills.

Dhoom Dhaam Review: Yami Gautam's Film Falls Short of Its Fun Aspirations

Dhoom Dhaam Review: Yami Gautam's Film Falls Short of Its Fun Aspirations

In Dhoom Dhaam, Yami Gautam and Pratik Gandhi bring their best efforts to a film that falls short of delivering the excitement it promises. The film, a rom-com caper now available on Netflix, starts off with a chaotic twist—on their wedding night, the couple is confronted by armed goons who demand to know the whereabouts of "Charlie." What ensues is a night full of confusion, humor, and mayhem that sees the couple, only hours into their marriage, questioning their compatibility.

The plot, set in motion by the intrusion, unfolds as the mismatched couple, Koyal (Gautam), a tough and assertive woman, and Veer (Gandhi), a timid veterinarian, race to evade their pursuers. The film thrives on their contrasting personalities, but while the energy between the leads is undeniable, the film struggles to maintain momentum. The chaotic action and running about offer plenty of slapstick moments, but the story doesn’t quite hold up.

The film attempts to balance action with comedy but doesn’t fully succeed. While there are some genuinely funny moments—such as Veer’s deadpan response to being asked why he's vegetarian, "Animal doctor hoon. I cannot eat my patients"—the humor feels forced at times. The film also takes several attempts at unexpected plot twists, none of which are particularly surprising.

Yami Gautam shines in a sequence where her character defends the lies women tell in a restrictive society, offering a powerful moment in an otherwise lackluster script. Gandhi also has a standout moment during a bachelorette performance where he humorously subverts typical male expectations in Hindi cinema. However, this character development is fleeting, as Veer quickly returns to his mild-mannered ways, with Koyal taking charge once more.

While the film offers a few laughs, it ultimately feels like a missed opportunity. The writing is occasionally witty, but the plot doesn't quite deliver on its potential. Despite this, the efforts of the lead actors deserve recognition for injecting energy into an otherwise uneven ride. Dhoom Dhaam may offer harmless entertainment, but it never fully realizes the fun it sets out to deliver.

"Customers in Panic as RBI Imposes Withdrawal Ban on New India Co-operative Bank

"Customers in Panic as RBI Imposes Withdrawal Ban on New India Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed stringent restrictions on New India Co-operative Bank, including a six-month ban on withdrawals, due to concerns about the bank's financial stability. This move has caused widespread panic among customers, many of whom gathered outside branches seeking clarification on the situation.

The RBI's announcement stated that the Mumbai-based bank would not be allowed to issue new loans, make investments, or borrow funds, citing supervisory concerns and liquidity issues. These restrictions took effect at the close of business on Thursday and will last for six months, though they are subject to review. However, the central bank did not provide specific details on the reasons behind the sudden action.

Videos surfaced online showing anxious customers rushing to the bank's branches. Many depositors expressed distress over the unexpected restrictions, as they rely on their bank accounts for daily financial transactions, bill payments, and loan EMIs. Seema Waghmare, a customer, voiced her frustration, saying, “We deposited money just yesterday, but they didn’t inform us about this. Now, they say we’ll get our money within three months. We have EMIs to pay and no idea how we’ll manage.” Another customer, Bhanumati, shared her concern, stating, "The bank didn't tell us anything... I’ve had an account here for 32-35 years. I was about to open an FD, but luckily I didn’t."

Despite the withdrawal ban, the RBI has allowed the bank to use existing deposits to offset loans under certain conditions. The bank is also permitted to incur essential expenses like employee salaries, rent, and utility bills to maintain basic operations.

This action is part of a series of regulatory measures by the RBI aimed at addressing liquidity and compliance issues in smaller financial institutions. The situation at New India Co-operative Bank will be closely monitored, with its future uncertain."

Ghosh and Ahuja Lead Stunning Comeback as RCB Complete WPL’s Biggest Chase

Ghosh and Ahuja Lead Stunning Comeback as RCB Complete WPL’s Biggest Chase

In a thrilling match that saw the highest total and successful chase in WPL history, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) chased down a target of 202 with ease in Vadodara.

Richa Ghosh, who had been dropped on her first ball, demonstrated that there was more to her game than just power. After Ellyse Perry’s dismissal for 57, leaving RCB needing 93 from 46 balls, Ghosh’s brilliant 64* off 26 balls injected the necessary momentum. A pivotal moment came in the 16th over when Ghosh took down Gujarat Giants captain Ashleigh Gardner, hitting her for 23 runs and shifting the game in RCB’s favor.

Kanika Ahuja, who supported Ghosh, contributed an unbeaten 30* off 13 balls. Together, the pair formed a match-winning 93-run partnership off just 37 balls, completing the chase with nine balls to spare. Their partnership overshadowed Gardner's incredible 79* from 37 balls, which had earlier propelled the Giants to a challenging total.

The Gujarat Giants had a solid start, with Renuka Singh’s early breakthrough dismissing Laura Wolvaardt for 6. However, Gardner's powerful innings kept the Giants in contention, supported by Beth Mooney's 56 from 37 balls. Despite a late surge from Deandra Dottin and Gardner, RCB’s chase proved unstoppable.

RCB's pursuit was also aided by several dropped catches and missed opportunities by the Giants, which allowed Perry to anchor their innings before Ghosh took charge. With RCB needing 93 from 46, Ghosh’s half-century off 23 balls and Ahuja's quick-fire knock sealed the win, leaving the Giants deflated.

RCB’s stunning chase solidified their status as the defending champions and gave them a dominant start to the season.

Captain America: Brave New World Box Office Collection (Day 1): Anthony Mackie’s Film Sees Phase 5’s Second-Lowest Opening, Earns Rs 4.3 Crore in India

Captain America: Brave New World Box Office Collection (Day 1): Anthony Mackie’s Film Sees Phase 5’s Second-Lowest Opening, Earns Rs 4.3 Crore in India

Captain America: Brave New World has had a disappointing start at the Indian box office, earning just Rs 4.3 crore on its opening day. This figure marks the second-lowest opening in Marvel’s Phase 5, following The Marvels, and is significantly lower compared to other Phase 5 films like Deadpool, Wolverine, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. The film, which stars Anthony Mackie in his first solo outing as Captain America, alongside Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, has received lukewarm responses from both critics and audiences.

The film’s underwhelming performance on Day 1 is especially notable given the high expectations for a reboot of Captain America, one of the most beloved MCU characters. In contrast, Deadpool and Wolverine earned Rs 21 crore and Rs 7.3 crore, respectively, while Quantumania made Rs 8.4 crore. Even The Marvels, which earned Rs 2.5 crore, had a stronger opening compared to Brave New World.

The film’s performance across different formats also reflects the lackluster reception. The English version of Brave New World saw just 19.75% occupancy in 3D and 13.78% in 2D, though the IMAX version performed better with 48.79% occupancy. Released in multiple languages, the Hindi version faced stiff competition from the popular Chhaava, drawing only 11.72% occupancy in its 3D screenings, while its IMAX and 4DX formats showed better results, contributing Rs 1.5 crore. The Telugu and Tamil versions earned Rs 20 lakhs and Rs 35 lakhs, respectively, with occupancy rates of 16.91% and 15.66% for 3D in Telugu and 19.05% and 11.11% for 3D and 2D in Tamil.

GG vs RCB: Deandra Dottin Makes WPL Debut, Gujarat Names Five Debutants, Perry Fit for Bengaluru

GG vs RCB: Deandra Dottin Makes WPL Debut, Gujarat Names Five Debutants, Perry Fit for Bengaluru

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Giants kicked off the third season of the Women's Premier League at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on February 14. RCB, aiming to defend their title, faced off against Gujarat, who are determined to improve upon their bottom finishes in the past two seasons.

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first in the season opener. The match saw debutants from both teams, with RCB introducing three Indian players: Prema Rawat, VJ Joshitha, and Raghvi Bist. Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, named five debutants for the match, including Deandra Dottin, who was unable to play in the first two seasons of the WPL due to a controversial withdrawal after being initially picked for WPL 2023. Alongside Dottin, Priya Mishra, Kashvee Gautam, Sayali Satghare, and Simran Shaikh also made their first appearances for Gujarat.

Dottin’s inclusion marks her long-awaited debut in the tournament, while RCB’s Ellyse Perry, who had been recovering from a hip injury sustained during the Women’s Ashes, confirmed that she was fit for the game, although she would not be bowling in the early stages of the season. “I’m certainly fit for the game, but I won’t be bowling for the first part of the tournament,” Perry said ahead of the match.

Mandhana, RCB’s captain, opted to bowl first after assessing the conditions. “It’s good to be back in Baroda. Dew is a big factor, so it’s better to bowl a few overs before it comes in. We had good practice sessions, and preparation has been solid,” Mandhana said at the toss, revealing a few forced changes to the squad, including the absence of some overseas players.

Gujarat Giants’ newly-appointed captain Ashleigh Gardner was also eager to start the season. “We were going to bowl as well, but that’s okay. We’ve got a good mix of youth and experience in our team, and I’m excited to get started with five debutants,” Gardner stated.

RCB achieved the highest-ever successful run chase in WPL history, setting a new record by chasing down 202 runs in just 19 overs. This victory marks the best possible start to the third edition of the tournament.

RCB's chase surpassed the previous record set by Mumbai Indians in 2024, who successfully chased 191 runs against Gujarat Giants.

Ellyse Perry contributed a crucial 57 runs off 34 balls for the defending champions, while Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja played pivotal unbeaten knocks of 64 and 30, respectively. Their efforts secured the record-breaking chase.

This match also set a new benchmark for the highest match aggregate in WPL history, with both teams combining for 403 runs. Additionally, the 16 sixes hit during this game marked the second-highest total in WPL history, following the 19 sixes hit in the RCB vs Delhi Capitals match in 2024.

'KL Rahul Isn't the Guy...': Pietersen Urges Gambhir to Keep Rahul at No. 5 for Champions Trophy, Excludes Harshit Rana from XI

'KL Rahul Isn't the Guy...': Pietersen Urges Gambhir to Keep Rahul at No. 5 for Champions Trophy, Excludes Harshit Rana from XI

Kevin Pietersen has selected his preferred playing XI for India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh next week in Dubai, notably leaving out Harshit Rana. The former England captain also had some advice for India head coach Gautam Gambhir, suggesting that wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul should bat at No. 5 in the playing XI. Pietersen’s recommendation came after Gambhir expressed his preference for a left-right combination in the middle order, leaving uncertainty about Rahul's batting position.

Pietersen’s comment follows criticism of the Indian team management during the recent home ODI series against England. In the first two matches, Axar Patel was promoted to bat at No. 5 ahead of Rahul. Although the all-rounder benefited from the move, Rahul struggled at No. 6, scoring only 12 runs across two innings.

Speaking to broadcasters after the final match in Ahmedabad, where Rahul played a valuable knock of 40 off 29 balls in India's dominant 142-run win, Pietersen emphasized that Rahul thrives when given more time at the crease. "KL Rahul is the kind of player who needs to settle in, and the best opportunity for that is at No. 5," Pietersen said. "He came in today with 17 overs to go, and when he has more time, he can build an innings. I don't think KL Rahul is the guy who can come in with three overs left and hit a quick 30. He needs time to get in."

Pietersen's advice comes as the team prepares for the Champions Trophy, where the focus will be on building a strong and stable middle order.

After 92 intense moves, Gukesh managed to salvage a draw from a seemingly lost position, earning applause from the playing hall. The game was the first in their classification match for 7th place at the Weissenhaus leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour, held on Thursday.

While Gukesh didn't manage to beat Alireza Firouzja, the draw felt like a victory for the Indian chess prodigy, who had been winless at the luxury resort village in Germany. The applause was in recognition of Gukesh's determination to turn the game around from a completely unfavorable position.

From the start, the evaluation bar heavily favored Alireza. Gukesh, playing with black pieces, made an early mistake by choosing the wrong knight, which allowed Alireza to take control of the game. At one point, the evaluation bar was as low as it could go, signaling a clear win for the French grandmaster. Alireza had over 17 minutes remaining on his clock, while Gukesh had only 47 seconds left.

Despite being on the back foot from early in the match, the turning point came when Alireza decided to exchange rooks while being a pawn up. In the end, Gukesh’s resilience paid off as he managed to force a draw. The second game of the match will be played tomorrow, with Gukesh having the white pieces.

In other tournament results, German grandmaster Vincent Keymer, who had helped Gukesh become the world champion, defeated Fabiano Caruana in the final. In the battle for third place, Magnus Carlsen triumphed over young Uzbek star Javokhir Sindarov, while Hikaru Nakamura beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov to claim 5th place.

Laila Twitter Reviews: Viewers Slam 'Low-Grade, Horrible' Film, Call Vishwak Sen's Starrer 'Torture'

Laila, the latest Vishwak Sen-starring action-comedy, has failed to win over audiences, with early reviews on social media harshly criticizing the film. Released on Valentine's Day 2025 alongside Chhaava and Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World, the film has been met with scathing feedback, while the other two films received mixed to positive responses.

Directed by Ram Narayan, Laila features Vishwak Sen in a dual role as Sonu, an aspiring model, and the titular femme fatale Laila. Alongside him, the film also stars Akanksha Sharma, Vennela Kishore, Babloo Prithiveeraj, and Abhimanyu Singh. Despite the film's controversies and calls for a boycott before its release, the backlash from viewers post-release suggests the protests may have been well-founded.

Social media has been filled with negative reactions, with many calling Laila a complete disaster. One Twitter user humorously commented, "Don’t believe any hate reviews targeting #Laila movie. The script itself is a disaster from start to finish—it's unbearable torture." Another shared a thumbs down and vomit emoji, stating, "The worst... Seriously, what a scrap."

RBI Orders Halt on Financial Operations of New India Co-operative Bank

RBI Orders Halt on Financial Operations of New India Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a notice to New India Co-operative Bank, Mumbai, restricting it from granting new loans, accepting deposits, or allowing withdrawals for the next six months. The central bank’s decision follows concerns over the bank’s financial health and liquidity.

In the notice, RBI stated that from the close of business on February 13, 2025, the bank must seek prior written approval from the RBI before engaging in activities such as granting or renewing loans, making investments, incurring liabilities (including borrowing funds), accepting new deposits, making payments, or selling or transferring its assets.

This action follows what the RBI referred to as “recent material developments” at the bank. While the central bank did not specify further details, it emphasized that these measures were taken to safeguard depositors' interests.

New India Co-operative Bank has faced financial difficulties in recent years, posting a loss of Rs 227.8 million for the financial year ending March 2024, following a loss of Rs 307.5 million the previous year. Its loan portfolio decreased to Rs 11.75 billion by March 2024, from Rs 13.30 billion a year earlier. However, its deposits increased slightly, rising to Rs 24.36 billion from Rs 24.06 billion.

Despite the restrictions, the RBI clarified that the bank’s licence remains intact. The RBI will continue to monitor the bank’s financial condition and take further action as needed.

This is not the first time the RBI has imposed stringent measures on a co-operative bank. In 2019, the RBI imposed similar restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank) after uncovering financial irregularities, including the under-reporting of bad loans. PMC Bank was later taken over by Centrum Financial Services under RBI supervision.

Did PM Modi Discuss Business Deals With Elon Musk? Here's What He Said

Did PM Modi Discuss Business Deals With Elon Musk? Here's What He Said

Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified that there were no business discussions with tech billionaire Elon Musk during their recent meeting. When asked about potential business talks, PM Modi humorously responded that only US President Donald Trump holds the "copyright" to the word "deal."

During a press conference following his meeting with Trump, PM Modi shared, "I have known Elon Musk for a long time. Today, he visited me with his family, and we had a conversation in a family setting."

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla and a close associate of Trump, met PM Modi at Blair House in Washington, the official guest house of the US President. Musk was accompanied by his three children – X, Strider, and Azure – and Neuralink director Shivon Zilis. As a gesture, Musk gifted PM Modi a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile, while Modi presented his children with classic Indian books such as Panchtantra and Crescent Moon by Rabindranath Tagore.

Following the meeting, PM Modi posted on X, saying, "Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I also spoke about India's efforts towards reform and advancing the idea of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.'"

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement confirming that the two leaders discussed strengthening collaboration between India and the US in areas such as innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.

Reports from Reuters suggested that the potential entry of Starlink into the South Asian market could have been part of the discussions between PM Modi and Musk.

PM Modi is in the US for a two-day visit, marking his first trip since President Trump’s second term began. Before leaving the country, the two leaders held a press conference where they announced several key initiatives, including the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a convict in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the deportation of illegal immigrants, and a deal for US oil and gas exports to India.

Donald Trump Approves Extradition of 26/11 Mumbai Attack Suspect Tahawwur Rana

Donald Trump Approves Extradition of 26/11 Mumbai Attack Suspect Tahawwur Rana

On January 21, the US Supreme Court rejected the review petition of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, clearing the way for his extradition to India.

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday (Washington time) that he had approved the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. This announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington.

Rana was arrested in the US less than a year after the Mumbai attacks and was later sentenced to 14 years for his involvement in supporting a terror plot in Denmark.

Speaking at a joint press conference with PM Modi at the White House, President Trump remarked that the US was "immediately sending back a very violent man" – referring to Rana. Trump was responding to a question about elements in the US working against India, including Khalistani separatists.

"I don't think India had a good relationship with the Biden administration... A lot of things happened that weren't very appropriate between India and the Biden Administration. But we are giving a very violent man (Tahawwur Rana) back to India immediately. There are more to follow because we have quite a few requests. We work with India on crime, and we want to make it good for India," Trump stated.

Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed it was in touch with US authorities to arrange the logistics for Rana’s extradition, now that he had "exhausted all legal avenues" in the United States.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made this statement during a press briefing on February 7, following the US Supreme Court's dismissal of Rana's appeal.

"I think from recent developments, you would be aware that Mr. Rana has exhausted all legal avenues in the United States, with the US Supreme Court also dismissing his appeal. Therefore, we are now coordinating with US authorities on the logistics of his surrender to Indian authorities, and we will provide updates as soon as we have further information," Misri said.

India had previously stated it was working with US authorities for the swift extradition of Rana, following the Supreme Court's ruling on January 21.

KKR vs RCB to Kick Off IPL 2025 on March 22

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on Saturday, March 22, 2025. As is customary, the season opener will feature the defending champions, with Eden Gardens in Kolkata hosting the first match. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who are the reigning champions, will take the field on the inaugural night.

They will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who revealed their new captain, Rajat Patidar, on Thursday. Last season's runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad, will play their first match at home on Sunday, March 23, against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal. This will be an afternoon fixture.

While the full IPL schedule has been highly anticipated, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to make an official announcement. However, it is understood that the key match dates have already been shared informally with the franchises. Sources also suggest that, in keeping with tradition, the final will be held in the city of the defending champions, with Eden Gardens again hosting the final on Sunday, May 25.

In addition to the 10 regular venues—Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mullanpur, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Hyderabad—this season's matches will also be played in Guwahati and Dharamsala. Guwahati will make its IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals, who have chosen the city as their second venue, playing there on March 26 and 30. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings will be their opponents in these evening games.

Dharamsala will host a couple of Punjab Kings' home matches, with reports suggesting that the city could feature in up to three games this season. As previously confirmed, Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator

Video: Antony Scores Stunning Goal for Real Betis in Europa Conference League Clash vs. Gent

Manchester United loanee Antony netted his second goal for Real Betis during their Europa Conference League matchup against Gent on Thursday evening.

Since joining Betis in the January transfer window to secure more first-team opportunities, the Brazilian has made a strong impact. Antony, United's second most expensive signing ever after Paul Pogba, was named MVP on his debut in a 2-2 draw against Athletic Club.

In his second match for Betis, Antony scored his first goal in a 3-2 loss to Celta Vigo, opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a composed finish after shifting the ball from his right to left foot inside the box.

In his third appearance for Betis, Antony found the back of the net again. In their Europa Conference League knockout round playoff against Gent in Belgium, the score was level at halftime. However, Antony wasted no time after the break, breaking the deadlock just two minutes into the second half. He collected the ball on the right, smoothly bypassed a defender, and fired a powerful low strike with his left foot into the net.

JPMorgan Chase Announces February Layoffs, Additional Cuts Expected: Report

JPMorgan Chase has begun notifying employees about upcoming layoffs as part of a broader downsizing strategy planned for 2025, according to reports. Barron's, citing sources familiar with the matter, stated that managers at the bank have started informing staff, with fewer than 1,000 employees set to be laid off in February. Further job cuts are expected in mid-March, May, June, August, and September.

A bank spokesperson commented, “We regularly assess our business needs and adjust our staffing accordingly. While we continue to hire in several areas, we are also working to redeploy affected employees. This is part of our ongoing business management and impacts a very small percentage of our workforce.”

At the close of 2024, JPMorgan Chase employed 317,233 people, meaning the layoffs will affect approximately 0.3% of its total workforce.

Despite these job cuts, the banking sector’s operating environment has significantly improved. JPMorgan, the largest U.S. lender by assets, reported its highest-ever annual profit in 2024.
