Captain America: Brave New World has had a disappointing start at the Indian box office, earning just Rs 4.3 crore on its opening day. This figure marks the second-lowest opening in Marvel’s Phase 5, following The Marvels, and is significantly lower compared to other Phase 5 films like Deadpool, Wolverine, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. The film, which stars Anthony Mackie in his first solo outing as Captain America, alongside Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, has received lukewarm responses from both critics and audiences.
The film’s underwhelming performance on Day 1 is especially notable given the high expectations for a reboot of Captain America, one of the most beloved MCU characters. In contrast, Deadpool and Wolverine earned Rs 21 crore and Rs 7.3 crore, respectively, while Quantumania made Rs 8.4 crore. Even The Marvels, which earned Rs 2.5 crore, had a stronger opening compared to Brave New World.
The film’s performance across different formats also reflects the lackluster reception. The English version of Brave New World saw just 19.75% occupancy in 3D and 13.78% in 2D, though the IMAX version performed better with 48.79% occupancy. Released in multiple languages, the Hindi version faced stiff competition from the popular Chhaava, drawing only 11.72% occupancy in its 3D screenings, while its IMAX and 4DX formats showed better results, contributing Rs 1.5 crore. The Telugu and Tamil versions earned Rs 20 lakhs and Rs 35 lakhs, respectively, with occupancy rates of 16.91% and 15.66% for 3D in Telugu and 19.05% and 11.11% for 3D and 2D in Tamil.
