Did PM Modi Discuss Business Deals With Elon Musk? Here's What He Said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified that there were no business discussions with tech billionaire Elon Musk during their recent meeting. When asked about potential business talks, PM Modi humorously responded that only US President Donald Trump holds the "copyright" to the word "deal."
During a press conference following his meeting with Trump, PM Modi shared, "I have known Elon Musk for a long time. Today, he visited me with his family, and we had a conversation in a family setting."
Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla and a close associate of Trump, met PM Modi at Blair House in Washington, the official guest house of the US President. Musk was accompanied by his three children – X, Strider, and Azure – and Neuralink director Shivon Zilis. As a gesture, Musk gifted PM Modi a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile, while Modi presented his children with classic Indian books such as Panchtantra and Crescent Moon by Rabindranath Tagore.
Following the meeting, PM Modi posted on X, saying, "Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I also spoke about India's efforts towards reform and advancing the idea of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.'"
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement confirming that the two leaders discussed strengthening collaboration between India and the US in areas such as innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
Reports from Reuters suggested that the potential entry of Starlink into the South Asian market could have been part of the discussions between PM Modi and Musk.
PM Modi is in the US for a two-day visit, marking his first trip since President Trump’s second term began. Before leaving the country, the two leaders held a press conference where they announced several key initiatives, including the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a convict in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the deportation of illegal immigrants, and a deal for US oil and gas exports to India.
