Maha Kumbh: Magh Purnima 'Snan' Today; Thousands of Devotees Take Dip at Prayagraj's Sangam | Key Updates

Today marks the holy Magh Purnima 'snan', where a sea of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to take a sacred dip as part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.

Drone footage from early morning captured the vast crowds near the Sangam, while devotees and ascetics experienced ‘Push Varsha’, as a helicopter showered flower petals over them.

According to Vivek Chaturvedi, an additional mela officer, "An unexpectedly large crowd has arrived for this year’s snan." He added that the bath will continue throughout the day on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath confirmed that over 45 crore devotees have bathed in the Triveni Sangam as part of the Maha Kumbh so far.

Magh Purnima Snan Highlights: The Magh Purnima bath is an important ritual at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. This is the fourth 'Amrit Snan' of the event, with administrative and state authorities preparing for the large crowds.

The occasion also marks the end of the month-long 'kalpavas' tradition, which began on January 13 with the start of Maha Kumbh. CM Yogi Adityanath extended his Magh Purnima greetings, emphasizing the significance of bathing, donating, and worshiping, and ensured that devotees and kalpavasi pilgrims would face no inconvenience.

Security and Arrangements: To ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event, a no-vehicle zone has been declared in Prayagraj, allowing only emergency vehicles. DIG Vaibhav Krishna urged people to follow official updates on social media platforms.

Artificial intelligence-enabled cameras and drones have been deployed to monitor crowd movements and manage traffic. Authorities are also gathering real-time data to improve traffic control in the area.

Healthcare and Travel Arrangements: A robust healthcare setup is in place, with over 2,000 medical staff deployed, and 133 ambulances (including river and air ambulances) ready for emergencies. Dr. Gaurav Dubey, the nodal medical officer, highlighted the preparedness of local hospitals, including the SRN hospital, which has 250 reserved beds and 200 blood units for emergencies.

In addition, railway and transport officials have made extensive travel arrangements, with 1,200 extra buses and additional train services to accommodate the high influx of pilgrims.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, is the world’s largest spiritual gathering and will conclude on February 26 with the observance of Mahashivratri.
