Haim is an American rock band based in Los Angeles, consisting of three sisters: Este (bass guitar and vocals), Danielle (lead vocals, guitar, and drums), and Alana Haim (guitar, keyboards, and vocals). The band’s name, which means "life" in Hebrew, was formed in 2007 but didn't initially pursue music as a career. They grew up in a musical household and started playing in the cover band Rockinhaim, led by their parents. The two older sisters, Este and Danielle, briefly performed with the pop group Valli Girls in 2005, but they eventually formed Haim with their younger sister, Alana.

In 2012, after Danielle had toured with Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time band. Their debut release, Forever (2012), led to a record deal with Polydor and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Their debut album, Days Are Gone (2013), was well-received, charting in the top ten internationally, including a number one spot in the UK. The band earned multiple awards and was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Haim’s second album, Something to Tell You (2017), followed their continued success. In 2020, they released their third album, Women in Music Pt. III, which received critical acclaim and earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance for "The Steps."

The sisters, born in the San Fernando Valley, California, come from a Jewish family. Their father, Moti, was a former professional soccer player and a drummer, while their mother, Donna, was a singer. As children, they formed Rockinhaim, performing cover songs at community events, and were influenced by their parents’ 1970s rock music collection. As teenagers, Este studied ethnomusicology at UCLA, while Alana attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.

In 2004, Danielle and Este joined the pop rock group Valli Girls before leaving to focus on Haim. In 2007, the trio began performing and recording under the name Haim, initially playing small local venues. Danielle's time as a touring guitarist for Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas helped shape the band's sound.

Haim's breakthrough came after the release of Forever and their standout performances at the South by Southwest festival in 2012. Their debut album, Days Are Gone, which mixed rock, R&B, and pop influences, was highly praised. In addition to their studio albums, they have toured internationally, performing with artists like Florence and the Machine and Mumford & Sons, and making TV appearances such as on Saturday Night Live.
