Antony Varghese's latest action-packed film Daveed has made an impressive debut at the box office, grossing Rs 90 lakhs on its opening day, Friday, February 14, 2025. Directed by Govind Vishnu, the Malayalam film has been met with positive feedback, especially highlighting the performances of Varghese, Lijomol Jose, and Mo Ismail. With its gripping story of an underdog boxer, Daveed seems poised for a strong weekend performance.
The film's opening collections indicate a promising start. According to reports from Sacnilk, Daveed earned Rs 90 lakhs on its first day, with a Malayalam occupancy rate of 30.18%. Afternoon shows saw the highest turnout at 30.87%, followed by evening shows at 24.57% and morning shows at 16.98%.
Daveed, directed by Govind Vishnu and written by Deepu Rajeevan and Govind Vishnu, stars Antony Varghese alongside Mo Ismail, Lijomol Jose, Vijayaraghavan, Saiju Kurup, and Kichu Tellus in key roles. The film follows a laid-back family man who unexpectedly finds himself in a boxing ring against a world champion, driven by a personal dignity dispute. As he fights for pride, he must also reclaim his lost identity.

Mo Ismail convincingly portrays Sainul Akhmadov, the formidable international boxer. Vijayaraghavan is believable as Ashan, a character inspired by real-life boxing coach Puthalath Raghavan. Child actor Jess Sweejan also impresses as Abu’s daughter. Despite a few missteps, the film remains a worthy watch with grand execution and a compelling narrative. A humorous nod comes when the protagonist’s name, Aashiq Abu, is revealed to be inspired by the director’s favorite filmmaker, Aashiq Abu—leading to a playful media jab in the story.”
