Michelle Trachtenberg, known for her roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Gossip Girl," has passed away at the age of 39, according to reports from U.S. media outlets.

Emergency responders arrived at her Manhattan apartment at approximately 8:00 am local time (1300 GMT) on Wednesday, where they found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene, though the cause of death has not been disclosed. Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected.

Sources told ABC News that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant and might have been experiencing complications.

A New York native, Trachtenberg began her career as a child star, playing the lead in the 1996 film "Harriet the Spy," alongside Rosie O'Donnell. She also had roles on Nickelodeon’s "The Adventures of Pete & Pete."

Her breakout role came on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," where she portrayed Dawn, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, from 2000 to 2003.

Trachtenberg later became known for her portrayal of the socialite antagonist Georgina Sparks on "Gossip Girl" from 2008 to 2012, alongside stars like Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, and Leighton Meester.

She also appeared in films such as "EuroTrip," "17 Again," and "The Scribbler" and made guest appearances on TV shows like "Weeds" and "Mercy." Her final acting credit was a cameo in the 2022 reboot of "Gossip Girl."
