NBA Centel Disappears from X Amid Outrage, Stephen A. Smith Says Goodbye

The popular parody account NBACentel has gone offline on X, sparking widespread speculation that Elon Musk may have had the account taken down. The page currently displays a message stating, "Posts aren’t loading right now, try again" when users attempt to view it.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith posted a tribute to the account, tweeting "RIP Centel," as many users quickly pointed fingers at Musk. One user tweeted, "@elonmusk, put your money where your mouth is and restore 'Free Speech' to X @TheNBACentel #FreeCentel #centel."

NBACentel emerged as a spin-off of the popular basketball news account NBACentral (@thedunkcentral) and gained a massive following, accumulating over 350,000 views. The account became known for posting NBA-related tidbits that were just plausible enough to deceive fans, players, and media personalities.

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant humorously mentioned the account in October, tweeting, "Sometimes I wake up and look at @TheNBACentel comments just to truly see how many dummies come online thinking that they have high IQ. Good morning."

NBA insider Brandon "Scoop" Robinson clarified that the account's restriction was temporary, not permanent. He tweeted, "NBA Centel's account is not deactivated, I'm told. It's a temporary restriction," citing a source with direct knowledge.

Other users on X urged for the account's swift return. One user pleaded, "Centel got packed I WILL CRY myself to sleep unless you reinstate them @elonmusk," while another chimed in, "In that case, @elonmusk should have been suspended/closed as well, they both spread misinformation. Free Centel."

Earlier this week, popular sports commentator Collin Cowherd fell for a fake NBACentel post about Luka Doncic's new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, highlighting how convincing the account’s posts can be.

In addition to NBA-related jokes, NBACentel also gained attention for posting fabricated Instagram comments between celebrities. One such post featured Kim Kardashian commenting, "I want to learn how to speak Slovenian" under a Luka Doncic post, with the basketball star replying, "@kimkardashian No, please don't." The tweet went viral, garnering over 50 million impressions and fooling many media outlets.

The account's sudden disappearance continues to generate conversation on X, with users hoping for its quick return.
