While the classic margarita typically combines tequila, lime, and triple sec, there are countless ways to add unique flavors and spice to make it stand out.

With National Margarita Day approaching on February 22, restaurants across the country are offering some exciting variations to celebrate the occasion.

• The Dunes
  At Odd Sister NYC, this margarita is made with tequila, mezcal, pineapple, bell pepper, and a light touch of spice. Clodagh Culkin, managing partner at Odd Sister, says, "The bell pepper and pineapple make this tequila cocktail refreshing and easy to drink for those looking to expand their margarita palate."

• Gochu Margarita
  Kuun in Brooklyn, New York, presents a Korean-inspired twist on the classic spicy margarita. Instead of jalapeños, Kuun uses gochujang, a savory, spicy fermented red chili paste from Korean cuisine, along with lime juice and triple sec. Jason Jang, manager at Kuun, explains, “We wanted to incorporate a Korean touch while keeping it familiar. Gochujang adds heat, smokiness, and a subtle sweetness, giving the cocktail extra texture and body that pairs perfectly with our savory dishes.”

• Arroz Con Bangkok
  At Shinji’s in New York City, the Arroz Con Bangkok is a spicy margarita that blends Thai and Mexican flavors. Made with Patrón Silver Tequila, cilantro, and a unique milk punch made from barley shochu, lemongrass, tamarind, evaporated milk, and rice, the cocktail is shaken with fresh lime juice and Carolina reaper pepper tincture based on your preferred spice level. Beverage Director Jonathan Adler says, “I’ve always loved Thai food, and my wife is from Mexico. I noticed the crossover in ingredients between both cuisines, which we’ve highlighted in this drink.”
