Spectator Ejected for "Fixated Behavior" During Emma Raducanu’s Match at Dubai Tennis Championships
A man was removed from the Dubai Tennis Championships after exhibiting "fixated behavior" toward British player Emma Raducanu, according to a statement from the WTA.
The incident occurred on Tuesday during Raducanu's second-round match against Karolina Muchová. The WTA reported that the man initially approached Raducanu in a public area on Monday and was later spotted in the front rows of her match on Tuesday before being escorted out.
"The individual will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment," the WTA added.
At the beginning of her match, Raducanu appeared visibly shaken, speaking with the umpire before stepping behind the umpire's chair. Muchová, who was leading 2-0 in the first set at the time, came over to comfort Raducanu. After a brief pause, the match resumed.
“Player safety is our top priority, and tournaments are advised on security best practices for international sporting events,” the WTA said. “We are actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support. We remain committed to collaborating with tournaments and their security teams worldwide to maintain a safe environment for all players.”
Raducanu, who was down 4-0 in the first set, fought back to make it 5-4. However, Muchová, ranked No. 17, won the first set in a tie-break and then broke Raducanu's serve early in the second set to take control of the match.
Muchová will now face American McCartney Kessler in the third round, following Kessler’s win over Coco Gauff on Tuesday.
