Former NFL Punter Chris Kluwe Calls MAGA a 'Nazi Movement' During Huntington Beach Protest

Chris Kluwe, the former NFL punter, was arrested on Tuesday while protesting a ‘MAGA’ sign at a city council meeting in Huntington Beach, California. Kluwe referred to the 'MAGA' movement as a “Nazi movement” during the protest.

Why was Chris Kluwe protesting?

The 43-year-old was speaking at the meeting in Huntington Beach, located south of Los Angeles, where he opposed the city council’s decision to display a plaque at the local library featuring the acronym ‘MAGA.’ Kluwe viewed the plaque as a "propaganda statement" tied to President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

Kluwe, who played for the Minnesota Vikings for eight seasons (2005-2012), addressed the seven-member city council to voice his concerns about what he believed the MAGA movement represented. He then moved toward the council, leading to his arrest.

“Unfortunately, it’s clear that this council doesn’t listen, so I’m going to take my time to explain what MAGA has stood for these past three years,” Kluwe said.

“MAGA stands for trying to erase trans people from existence. MAGA stands for resegregation and racism. MAGA stands for censorship and book bans,” he added.
