Nickelodeon Orders ‘Avatar’ Sequel Series ‘Seven Havens,’ Set After ‘Legend of Korra’
Nickelodeon is expanding the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” universe with the greenlight of a new animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens.
This 2D animated series will feature 26 half-hour episodes split across two seasons (or Books 1 & 2), following the style of the original Avatar series. The announcement comes as Avatar: The Last Airbender celebrates its 20th anniversary, with the original show debuting on February 21, 2005.
Seven Havens is created by Avatar creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko under the Avatar Studios banner, with production taking place at Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.
According to the official description, the series is set in a world fractured by a devastating cataclysm. It follows a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra. However, in this dangerous era, her title makes her out to be humanity’s destroyer, rather than its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens, the last strongholds of civilization.
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” said DiMartino and Konietzko. “This new version of the Avatar universe is filled with fantasy, mystery, and an incredible new cast of characters. Prepare for another epic and emotional adventure!”
DiMartino and Konietzko will serve as co-creators and executive producers for Avatar: Seven Havens. Ethan Spaulding is also an executive producer, and Sehaj Sethi is a co-executive producer.
“For two decades, the rich world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has captivated global audiences with its unforgettable characters and groundbreaking storylines,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We’re thrilled to dive into the next chapter of this epic saga with a fresh story set within the Avatarverse, brought to life by the original creators.”
This will be the third animated series set in the Avatar universe. In addition to The Last Airbender, Nickelodeon aired The Legend of Korra for four seasons from 2012 to 2014. An animated film focusing on Aang and the characters from The Last Airbender is also set to release in theaters in January 2026, with a voice cast that includes Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, and Eric Nam.
Netflix also launched a live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender in 2024, although DiMartino and Konietzko had already left the project due to creative differences before the show’s debut.
In honor of The Last Airbender's 20th anniversary, Paramount is rolling out a wealth of new Avatar content, including digital shorts, live experiences, consumer products, and video games.
