South Korean Actress Kim Sae-ron, 24, Found Dead at Home; Friend Reveals She Was Preparing a Comeback After DUI Scandal

South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on Sunday, as confirmed by local authorities. Kim, aged 24, was last seen in Netflix's Bloodhounds in 2023. The cause of her death remains unclear, and police are currently investigating, though no signs of foul play have been reported.

A close friend of Kim's had planned to meet her on Sunday, but upon arriving at her apartment, they discovered her body and promptly notified the police. The investigation is ongoing.

Kim began her acting career as a child in the 2009 film A Brand New Life but rose to fame with her role in the 2010 neo-noir action thriller The Man from Nowhere, which became South Korea’s highest-grossing film of that year. She also appeared in several other films, including I Am a Dad (2011), Listen to My Heart (2011), and The Neighbor (2012). By 2015, Kim secured lead roles, and her career continued to flourish with notable projects such as Snowy Road (2015), Secret Healer (2016), The Villagers (2018), Leverage (2019), and The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim (2021).

However, Kim's career took a sharp downturn in 2022 after a drunk driving incident in Seoul, where she crashed into an electrical transformer. She was arrested, her license was revoked, and she was fined 20 million won ($13,850) in April 2023. The incident led to heavy social media backlash and a halt to her career as she struggled to secure new roles.

Despite the setback, Kim was reportedly planning a return to the industry. According to a friend, she was preparing for a comeback with the film The Guitar Man and was also planning to open a café. “She said she’d make money acting again after making a comeback with The Guitar Man,” the friend shared. “She was also getting ready to open a café. I still can't believe it.”
