Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks delivered a dominant performance, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 143-106. Despite the impressive victory, Brunson wasn’t ready to get carried away with the team’s success.
The Grizzlies, riding a six-game win streak, entered Madison Square Garden on Monday with high hopes, but their momentum quickly faded. Memphis turned the ball over 26 times, which derailed any chance of a competitive game. Ja Morant, the Grizzlies' star point guard, had a tough outing, scoring just 10 points on 5-13 shooting, with a team-low -41 plus/minus.
With the win, the Knicks improved to 31-16, holding onto third place in the Eastern Conference, and extended their win streak to four games—two of those victories by a combined 60-point margin.
While the Knicks have been firing on all cylinders, Brunson remained focused on continual improvement rather than resting on their recent successes.
"I'm not one to get caught up in potential or what’s ahead," Brunson said. "It's about how we can focus on getting better every single day, no matter what happens. We can't be complacent. We can't assume we’re on top just because of a couple of wins. Nothing is guaranteed in this league."
While the Knicks’ recent play has impressed many, showing they can meet high expectations, the Grizzlies had an off night and shouldn’t be too discouraged by this tough road loss.
