Hyperbaric chamber explodes killing 5-year-old Michigan boy

A devastating incident occurred at the Oxford Medical Center in Troy, Michigan, when a hyperbaric chamber exploded, killing a five-year-old boy and injuring his mother. The explosion took place during the boy’s treatment in the chamber, which is designed to deliver pure oxygen at higher-than-normal air pressure for medical purposes, such as life-saving, limb-saving, and tissue-healing therapies.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 8 a.m. on Friday, finding the boy deceased inside the chamber. His mother, who was nearby at the time of the explosion, sustained arm injuries. Fortunately, no one else was harmed in the blast.

The Oxford Medical Center, which has been in operation for 15 years, expressed shock and grief over the incident, stating that nothing like this had ever occurred before. They assured that they would fully cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation. In a statement, the center said, “This is an exceptionally difficult day for all of us... We do not know why or how this happened and will participate in all of the investigations that now need to take place.” The center also emphasized that the safety and well-being of the children they serve is their highest priority.
