Howard University Mourns the Loss of Law Professor Kiah Duggins in Tragic Plane Crash

Howard University is mourning the loss of Kiah Duggins, a promising law professor who tragically died in a mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday evening.

University President Ben Vinson III expressed deep sorrow, stating, “We ask for privacy and respect for Professor Duggins’ family, students, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Professor Duggins, a dedicated legal scholar, had strong ties to Kansas, having been crowned Miss Butler County in 2014 and 2015. Larry Strong, her former pageant director, shared that she was preparing to begin her role as a law professor at Howard University this fall.

Duggins graduated from Harvard Law School, where she served as president of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. She also earned bachelor’s degrees from Wichita State University and completed a Fulbright grant in Taiwan. Her legal career included work with the Civil Rights Corps, where she litigated against unconstitutional policing practices and money bail systems across multiple states.

Details of the Tragic Collision
The deadly accident involved an American Airlines flight carrying 64 people and a military helicopter. Officials have reported that there are no survivors.
