Short-Handed Mavericks Cruise Past Wizards, 130-108, Sweep Season Series

The Dallas Mavericks dominated the Washington Wizards in a one-sided affair on Monday night, securing a 130-108 victory at home. The win marked a season series sweep for the Mavs, despite missing several key players, including Luka Dončić, Dereck Lively II, Naji Marshall, and Malcolm Brogdon.

Dallas, also shorthanded, started Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, and Daniel Gafford. The Wizards countered with Jordan Poole, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Kyle Kuzma, and Alex Sarr.

The Mavs got off to a blazing start, with Klay Thompson scoring 15 points midway through the first quarter, helping Dallas jump to a quick 13-2 lead. Thompson continued to shine, finishing the quarter with 21 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds, shooting 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. By the end of the first, the Mavericks held a commanding 42-16 lead.

While the Wizards showed some offensive life in the second quarter, led by Jonas Valančiūnas and Coulibaly, Thompson’s hot start ignited the rest of the Mavericks. Jaden Hardy drained a couple of threes, and P.J. Washington added 9 points in the quarter. At halftime, Dallas had built a 73-43 lead, shooting 13-of-26 from three-point range compared to Washington’s 4-of-18.

Gafford continued his strong play in the second half, scoring 9 points and blocking 2 shots early on. Despite a brief rally from the Wizards, which included an 8-0 run, Dallas maintained a comfortable 101-76 lead heading into the final quarter.

With the game largely out of reach, Jason Kidd gave bench players Markieff Morris and Kessler Edwards some extended minutes, allowing Washington to trim the deficit to 22. However, the Mavericks closed out the game strong, with Kylor Kelley making his NBA debut, sealing the win, 130-108.

Dallas dominated the three-point shooting battle, hitting 20-of-45 (44.4%) compared to Washington’s 11-of-37 (29.7%). Thompson led the Mavericks with 23 points, despite not scoring in the second half, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper added 20 points, tying his career-high. P.J. Washington chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds, Gafford had 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks, while Kyrie Irving contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

With the win, Dallas improves as they head into a critical three-game stretch against winnable opponents.
