Suns-Warriors Live Updates: Devin Booker, Phoenix Maintain Control in 3rd Quarter
The Phoenix Suns (24-22) are facing off against the Golden State Warriors (24-23), led by Stephen Curry, on Friday night at 8 p.m. The game is being broadcast on ESPN and Arizona's Family (Ch. 3) in Phoenix.
This game marks the start of a four-game road trip for the Suns, with back-to-back games, and is the third of four matchups against Golden State in the Pacific Division this season. The first two meetings ended in a split.
The Suns, currently in ninth place in the Western Conference, are led by Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. After a rough 4-9 stretch in December, they’ve rebounded with a solid 9-5 record in January. The Suns are coming off a 121-113 home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Golden State, Durant’s former team, sits 11th in the West but has won two straight games and is 8-7 in January.
Booker, Durant Maintain Suns' Lead in 3rd Quarter
Devin Booker (game-high 25 points) kept up his strong performance in the third quarter, pushing the Suns to a 98-79 lead heading into the final period.
Kevin Durant (19 points) finished the third quarter on a hot streak, hitting three consecutive 3-pointers in the last minute. Nick Richards dominated inside, scoring eight of his 14 points and grabbing six of his game-high 13 rebounds during the third, along with two blocks.
For the Warriors, Andrew Wiggins (15 points) and Buddy Hield (13 points) led the scoring, while Stephen Curry struggled, finishing 3-of-11 for just six points. Curry hit his first two shots early in the third but continued to struggle, shooting 3-of-10 overall and 0-for-4 from beyond the arc. The Suns capitalized on this, going on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 18 points at 8:32. A pair of 3-pointers from Bradley Beal (12 points, 5-of-7 FG) helped the Suns extend their lead to 22 points with 4:23 left in the period.
Booker, Allen Keep Suns Ahead in 2nd Quarter
Phoenix extended its lead to double digits in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 62-51 advantage.
Devin Booker contributed 10 of his 17 points, and Grayson Allen added eight of his 11 points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting in the second. Stephen Curry struggled again, managing just two points on 1-of-5 shooting.
The second quarter featured back-and-forth runs, with Phoenix eventually pulling away. After a 10-0 run to start the quarter, Phoenix led by 13 before Curry’s first field goal stopped the surge at 7:38. Golden State trimmed the deficit to six with 5:23 left, but Booker and Allen led an 8-0 run to push Phoenix’s lead to its largest of the half at 14 points.
The Suns have been sharing the ball effectively, recording 20 assists on 24 made shots (51.1% FG) and hitting 9-of-19 from three-point range.
Durant Puts Suns Ahead in 1st Quarter
Kevin Durant led all scorers with nine points, while Devin Booker added seven, helping the Suns to a 30-27 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Stephen Curry had a quiet start, failing to score and attempting just one shot in the opening period.
The first quarter was closely contested, with Phoenix’s largest lead at four points and Golden State’s at three. The quarter featured eight lead changes and two ties, with both teams hitting five and six three-pointers, respectively.
Starting Lineups
The Suns are starting Tyus Jones, Devin Booker, Ryan Dunn, Kevin Durant, and Nick Richards.
