Phoenix Mercury Acquire Dallas Wings Star Satou Sabally in 3-Team Trade, Send Sophie Cunningham to Indiana Fever

The Phoenix Mercury have made another big move in reshaping their roster, acquiring two-time All-Star Satou Sabally from the Dallas Wings while parting ways with veteran forward Sophie Cunningham, as reported by ESPN.

According to the report, Phoenix secured Sabally through a three-team deal with Indiana on Friday. In exchange, the Mercury sent Cunningham and their 2025 second-round pick (No. 19 overall) to the Indiana Fever.

Sabally’s arrival marks the Mercury’s second major acquisition, following their trade for former Connecticut Sun All-Star and multi-year MVP candidate Alyssa Thomas just days earlier.

The trade involving Sabally was a sign-and-trade agreement between Dallas and Phoenix, finalized one day before free agency officially begins on Saturday. The Wings had extended a core qualifying offer to Sabally earlier this month, giving them exclusive negotiating rights as she considered offers from other teams.

In addition to Sabally, the Mercury will also receive Kalani Brown and Sevgi Uzun as part of the deal. Dallas, meanwhile, will acquire Ty Harris and NaLyssa Smith from Indiana, along with the rights to Mikiah Herbert Harrigan from Phoenix and Indiana’s No. 8 pick in the 2025 draft.

Harris had recently been part of the Thomas trade with Phoenix.

Entering her sixth season out of Oregon, Sabally was the Wings’ second-leading scorer last season, averaging 17.9 points per game, behind only Phoenix All-Star Arike Ogunbowale (2024 All-Star Game MVP). She also contributed 6.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and posted a career-high 45.2% from beyond the arc, ranking third on the team in 3-point shooting.
