EXCLUSIVE: As production gears up for the next installment in the Spider-Man franchise later this year, Tom Holland has found a new co-star—Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. Sources reveal to Deadline that Sink will join the sequel from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, with Holland returning as Peter Parker.
Marvel and Sony declined to comment on the casting.
Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the film, with Amy Pascal and Marvel president Kevin Feige producing.
While details about Sink’s character remain under wraps, the popular theory is that she will portray X-Men’s Jean Grey, though there's also speculation she could take on another iconic redhead from the Spider-Man universe. What is certain is that Sink’s role will be significant, as the storyline picks up after Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Parker made the choice to complete Doctor Strange’s spell that erased his identity from the world.
Following this plot direction, Holland’s previous co-stars may have smaller roles, with newcomers like Sink being added to the cast, marking her as the first major new addition.
Currently, Holland is filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, but plans to begin work on Spider-Man once production on Nolan’s film is completed.
For Sink, this role comes after wrapping her iconic part in Stranger Things, with the series' final season set to premiere later in 2025. Sink will also appear in the upcoming musical O’Dessa, which recently premiered at SXSW and will debut on Hulu next week. Before jumping into Spider-Man, Sink will be seen in the Broadway play John Proctor Is the Villain, opening on April 4.
Sink is represented by WME, Mara Entertainment, and Peikoff Mahan.
