Pakistan Captain Bluntly Tells BCCI Critics to Stop ‘Whining’

Amidst the criticism surrounding the scheduling of the 2025 Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found an unexpected ally. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif came to the BCCI's defense, sharply criticizing the remaining ICC representatives for the "blunder" in the tournament's scheduling.

India, unable to travel to Pakistan due to geopolitical issues, had their matches moved to Dubai last December. As the tournament progressed, some critics began accusing India of gaining an "undeniable advantage" by playing all their matches at a single venue.

On the YouTube show Caught Behind, Latif launched a fierce attack on former England cricketers Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, and David Lloyd, who had fueled the narrative against India and the BCCI.

"If we (Pakistan) talk about India having an advantage, that's understandable. But why are former England cricketers complaining now? Begaani shaadi mein abdullah deewana (They're trying to get overly involved in someone else's matters)," Latif remarked.

While Latif acknowledged the scheduling issue, he refused to place the blame solely on the BCCI. Instead, he criticized the other cricket boards for overlooking the mistake and bluntly told them to stop complaining over "spilt milk."

"Yes, there was an issue with the schedule. On Saturday, March 2, India played New Zealand in Dubai. If that match had been played a day earlier, when England played South Africa (on March 1) in Karachi, the semifinal lineup would have been decided easily. This was a blunder from the ICC and all the involved parties. Your job is to check the schedule, and you missed the mistake. Once it was agreed upon, and now your team is out, you're whining. All the cricket board representatives are to blame. You shouldn’t attend ICC meetings just to have a good time — do your job properly," he added.

Latif further addressed the critics, saying, "If India is getting all the support, but you all agreed to it, maybe we Pakistanis are making excuses out of jealousy, but the rest of the world shouldn't complain about it. You all agreed to the schedule."

India’s View on the Dubai Narrative

The Indian team had a differing view on the matter. After India’s semifinal victory over Australia, captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir dismissed the claims of an unfair advantage.

"There's a lot of talk about undue advantages. What undue advantage? We haven't even practiced here for a day. We're training at the ICC Academy, and the conditions there and here are completely different," Gambhir said.

"If you look at the wickets here and there, it’s like comparing night and day. Some people are just perpetual whiners. They need to grow up. I don’t think we had any undue advantage or that we planned this situation," he added.

However, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami acknowledged that playing all their matches at the same venue did give India an edge.

"It definitely helped us because we are familiar with the conditions and the behavior of the pitch," Shami said, as quoted by AFP. "It’s a plus point to play all the matches at one venue."
