The legendary actor, known for his memorable roles in films like Abhinetri and Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool, as well as modern favorites like Kaminey and King Uncle, passed away at 9:30 AM. His final rites are scheduled for later today at Mumbai's Pawan Hans at 4:00 PM.

Born on November 22, 1941, in Kanpur, Deb Mukherjee hailed from the illustrious Mukherjee-Samarth family, a dominant force in Indian cinema since the 1930s. His father, Sashadhar Mukherjee, was the owner of Filmalaya Studios and produced several of Deb's hit films, including Love in Simla (1960).

Deb's mother, Satidevi Mukherjee, was the sister of legendary actors Kishore Kumar, Ashok Kumar, and Anup Kumar. His brothers, Joy Mukherjee and Shomu Mukherjee, also made their mark in the industry. Notably, Shomu married actress Tanuja and is the father of actress Kajol Devgan.

Deb Mukherjee's daughter, Sunita Gowariker, is married to acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, making him Deb's son-in-law. Deb’s son, Ayan Mukerji, is a renowned director known for blockbuster films like Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. This means Ayan is the brother-in-law of Ashutosh Gowariker.
