Simon Fisher-Becker, Known for Harry Potter and Doctor Who, Dies at 63

Simon Fisher-Becker, the British actor famous for his roles in Harry Potter and Doctor Who, passed away on Sunday at the age of 63.

Fisher-Becker’s husband, Tony Dugdale, confirmed the sad news in a Facebook post, though he did not provide additional details about the cause of death. Tony shared, “Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband. I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon, Simon passed away.”

Kim Barry, Fisher-Becker’s agent at Jaffrey Management, also confirmed his death, describing Simon as not only a client but also a close personal friend for 15 years. Barry expressed, “He helped me out enormously and was always kind, gracious, and interested in everyone.”

Born in London on November 25, 1961, Fisher-Becker made his first Hollywood appearances in the 1990s in a series of TV shows, including Hale and Pace and One Foot in the Grave. He gained recognition with his role as the Fat Friar in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), where he played the ghost who welcomed students to Hogwarts.

Fisher-Becker also became well-known for his portrayal of Dorium Maldovar, the blue-skinned alien in the Doctor Who series, which marked a pivotal moment in his career. He showcased his versatility in various British TV shows such as The Bill, Afterlife, Puppy Love, and Love Soup. He also appeared in the 2012 Academy Award-winning film Les Misérables.

An accomplished voice-over artist, Fisher-Becker lent his voice to Arthur Morstan in the Sherlock Holmes mini-series and contributed to several podcast series, including 2022’s Abnormal Stories and 2024’s Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter.
