Warriors' Pursuit of Kevin Durant Gets a Major Boost in Trade Talks

Warriors' Pursuit of Kevin Durant Gets a Major Boost in Trade Talks

The Golden State Warriors are intensifying their efforts to bring back Kevin Durant, with the Phoenix Suns now open to trade offers for the two-time Finals MVP ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

The possibility of Durant returning to Golden State is gaining significant momentum, becoming the focal point for both the Warriors and fans across social media.

Rockets and Mavericks Are Unlikely to Pursue Durant

One hurdle for the Warriors is that the Suns have not limited their trade talks to their Pacific rivals, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer. Previously, reports suggested that both the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks were potential suitors for Durant, alongside Golden State. However, Stein and Fischer have since reported that both teams are unlikely to pursue Durant before the deadline.

The Rockets appear focused on giving their young core a chance at the playoffs this season, while the Mavericks, still reeling from their surprising trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, are unlikely to make another major move at this time.

This shift could be a significant advantage for the Warriors, as fewer competitors for Durant's services means Golden State may have a better shot at securing a reunion with the star forward.

Bradley Beal’s No-Trade Clause Plays a Key Role

The biggest factor in the Warriors' hopes for acquiring Durant is the situation surrounding Suns star Bradley Beal. Beal’s refusal to waive his no-trade clause is reportedly one of the main obstacles to a potential deal. If the Suns fail to move Beal, a multi-team trade might be the solution, sending Durant to Golden State and disgruntled Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler to Phoenix.

One of the reasons the Durant trade rumors have intensified is that moving him might be Phoenix’s best chance to acquire Butler before the deadline. In such a scenario, Golden State could trade veteran Andrew Wiggins, rather than Draymond Green, to facilitate the deal.

The Future of Durant’s Trade Drama

With fewer teams in the mix for Durant’s services, the Warriors' chances of landing the superstar seem to have improved, but much will depend on how the final hours leading up to the deadline unfold.
