Grammy 2025 Best New Artist Chappell Roan Calls Out Record Labels For Failing To Offer 'Livable Wages, Health Care' To Artists

Chappell Roan, recognized for her hit song Pink Pony Club, won the Best New Artist award at the 67th Grammy Awards, defeating nominees like Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. In her acceptance speech, Roan used the moment to call out record labels for not providing basic welfare services such as health insurance and livable wages to emerging talent.

Roan, who has faced struggles related to lack of health coverage and fair pay, urged the music industry to do better for their artists.

During her speech, she said, “I told myself that if I ever won a Grammy and had the chance to stand before the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels, which profit millions off artists, offer a livable wage and health care, especially to emerging artists."

She continued, “I was signed at a very young age, as a minor. When I was dropped, I had no job experience, and like many others, I struggled to find work during the pandemic and couldn’t afford insurance.”

Roan shared the emotional toll it took, saying, “It was devastating to feel so committed to my art and yet so betrayed by the system. If my label had prioritized it, I could have received care from a company I gave everything to. Record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees—offering livable wages, health insurance, and protection.”

She concluded her speech with a powerful statement: “Labels, we got you, but do you got us?”

Chappell Roan won the Best New Artist category at the 2025 Grammys, and performed her song Pink Pony Club during the ceremony.
