Knicks Acquire Delon Wright in Trade Involving Jericho Sims

The New York Knicks made a move before the trade deadline, acquiring Delon Wright from the Milwaukee Bucks in a deal that saw Jericho Sims head to Milwaukee.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Knicks jumped into the action during the final hours of the trade window, as part of the Bucks' larger transaction with the Washington Wizards involving a trade of Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Knicks received a three-part package from Milwaukee, highlighted by veteran point guard Delon Wright. The teams also swapped the draft rights to French prospects, with the Knicks sending Mathias Lessort to Milwaukee in exchange for Hugo Besson. Additionally, New York received cash considerations.

Wright, 32, is now in his 10th NBA season and brings valuable experience to the Knicks. He had been averaging 2.5 points and 1.8 assists in 26 games for the Bucks this season, including two starts. Wright, the younger brother of NBA champion Dorell, was originally drafted by the Toronto Raptors as the 20th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Throughout his career, he has played for several teams, including Memphis, Dallas, Detroit, Sacramento, Atlanta, Washington, and Miami before joining Milwaukee in July. His best season came in 2018-19 with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Bucks head coach Doc Rivers praised Wright's solid play and defense, describing him as a "terrific defender" and a well-liked presence in any locker room.

As for the Knicks, Wright's role in the rotation is still uncertain, with Miles McBride, Cameron Payne, and Landry Shamet currently filling key backcourt spots. The Knicks' bench minutes may become more competitive with Mitchell Robinson reportedly nearing his season debut.

In addition to Wright, New York also acquired the rights to Besson, a 23-year-old guard currently playing in Turkey. Besson, the 58th pick in the 2022 draft, previously played in Milwaukee's Summer League after being traded by the Indiana Pacers. He was the leading scorer in the French second-tier league (Ligue nationale de basket) during the 2020-21 season.
