‘The Voice’ Season 27 Premiere Recap: Four-Chair Turns, a Block, and a Historic ‘Coach Replay’
Season 27 of The Voice kicked off on February 3, 2025, with an exciting premiere filled with four-chair turns, a unique “Coach Replay,” and plenty of drama as contestants vied for a spot on the coaches' teams.
During the premiere, 11 contestants performed their blind auditions, with Adam Levine, John Legend, Michael Bublé, and Kelsea Ballerini each securing talent for their teams. As always, the competition is expected to be fierce this season.
While two contestants didn’t receive any turns and were eliminated, two others impressed all four coaches, earning the coveted four-chair turn.
Here’s a breakdown of the key moments from the The Voice Season 27 premiere:
Four-Chair Turns:
Grace Miller Moody: Moody stunned all four coaches with her cover of Maroon 5’s "Sunday Morning." Ballerini remarked that Adam Levine, known for not turning for his own songs, had “broken the code.” Levine sealed the deal by greeting Moody’s family and shaking hands with them. Despite some playful teasing from Ballerini about Levine’s past with former coach Blake Shelton, Moody chose Team Adam.
Ethan Eckenroad: Eckenroad’s rendition of Noah Kahan’s "Northern Attitude" earned him a second four-chair turn. Levine praised his voice as the best he’d heard all night. Ballerini tried to sway him by pointing out her connection with Kahan, but Eckenroad ultimately picked Team Adam, too.
Kelsea Ballerini’s Historic ‘Coach Replay’: Ballerini made history by being the first coach to use the “Coach Replay” feature. The "Coach Replay" allows a coach to reverse their decision and recruit a contestant they previously didn’t turn for. Ballerini used hers after realizing her mistake with Dan Kiernan’s performance of Panic! At the Disco’s "High Hopes." Although John Legend had already turned for Kiernan, Ballerini convinced him to join her team.
John Legend’s Block: Legend used his block to prevent Levine from recruiting Renzo, who performed "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. While Bublé also turned, Renzo ultimately chose Team Legend.
Contestants Eliminated: Unfortunately, Zack Zaro and Lilli Doll didn’t make it past the blind auditions. Levine acknowledged Zaro’s passion but pointed out some technical flaws, while Ballerini suggested Doll needed more time to develop her voice.
Returning Contestant: Iris Herrera, who failed to turn a chair in Season 26, came back stronger this season. Her performance of "You Are My Sunshine" impressed all coaches except Levine, leading her to join Team Kelsea.
A Former Finalist’s Daughter Auditions: Jadyn Cree, the daughter of Season 25 finalist Bryan Oleson, made a memorable debut, earning turns from both Ballerini and Bublé with her rendition of Paramore’s "Still Into You." She chose to join Team Bublé, and Oleson proudly watched from the sidelines.
Kelsea Ballerini Duets with a Contestant: Angie Rey caught Ballerini’s attention by performing one of Ballerini's own songs, “Penthouse.” After Ballerini praised Angie’s vocal prowess, Bublé encouraged them to duet together. The impromptu performance led Rey to join Team Kelsea.
