Medics Attend to Fan Who Collapsed Courtside at Spurs vs. Grizzlies Game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Medics responded to a fan who collapsed courtside just before Monday night's game between the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies.
As the teams prepared for the opening tip-off, attention shifted to the courtside area where medics were attending to the man on the floor. Both teams were sent back to the locker rooms while the game was delayed.
A Memphis Grizzlies spokesperson expressed their support: "We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the individual involved and are thankful to the first responders and medical staff who provided the necessary care."
The fan was taken off the court on a stretcher after about seven minutes, but there was no immediate update on his condition. The game eventually started after a 45-minute delay.
Sports agent Mike Miller, who was seated near the fan, called for assistance when he noticed something was wrong. "It was awful," Miller recalled. "He was sitting and talking to people, then the national anthem played, and he didn’t get up."
The situation unfolded just before the game was set to begin between the Spurs and Grizzlies. The crowd looked on as medical personnel swiftly moved to assist the fan.
