"I Hope He Can Come Back": Harrison Ford Shares Hopes for Red Hulk's Future After Captain America 4
Captain America: Brave New World is just under two weeks away from release, and there’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the film. This marks the first major movie with Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson) as Captain America after reclaiming the shield in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
While expectations are high for the film, cast member Harrison Ford—who took over the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt—hopes that Red Hulk won't be a one-time appearance. Instead, Ford sees this movie as an introduction for the character, with hopes that later films will allow for more depth, as reported by Games Radar.

Red Hulk is a unique character within Marvel’s vast roster, and William "Thunderbolt" Ross has been a part of the MCU since the franchise's second film, The Incredible Hulk. Until his passing in 2022, William Hurt portrayed Ross. Now, Ford has stepped into the role, and he'll make his debut as the character in Brave New World.
Unlike Bruce Banner’s Hulk, known for his monstrous rage and iconic shredded attire, Red Hulk is a much more complex figure. Ford is eager to explore this side of the character, especially since Brave New World doesn't offer much time to delve into Ross’ super-powered alter ego.

Speaking at a press conference, Ford expressed his enthusiasm about working on an MCU film, calling it an "amazing group of people" and "an imaginative reality" to be a part of. He added, "I was very happy with the opportunity to play in this playground."
Reflecting on taking over the role from Hurt, Ford shared that he felt honored to step into such a significant part, acknowledging that his portrayal would build on the strong foundation laid by Hurt. “I was honored to be able to do my work on top of a foundation that a wonderful actor, Bill Hurt, provided for the character," Ford said. "And the story is a wonderful extension of the stories that Thunderbolt Ross has been part of."
Looking ahead to his future in the MCU, Ford remains hopeful. Given that Red Hulk won’t be the main focus of Brave New World, he expressed his desire to see the character evolve in future films. “I hope he can come back,” Ford said. “I hope there’s a story in which he can develop into something other than the Red Hulk.”
