Myles Garrett, the NFL's 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, announced on Monday that he has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns.

"As a child dreaming of the NFL, my sole focus was always on winning a Super Bowl, and that drive remains stronger than ever today," Garrett stated. "My deep love for Northeast Ohio and the incredible Cleveland Browns fanbase has made this one of the hardest decisions of my life. These past eight years have helped shape me into who I am now."

"While I’ve loved making this city my home, my desire to compete and win on the grandest stage refuses to let me stay complacent. The goal has never been to go from Cleveland to Canton, but to fight for and win a Super Bowl."

"With that, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."

Speculation about Garrett’s future in Cleveland has been ongoing, especially after his comments questioning the team’s offseason plans following their 3-14 season. He also mentioned in December that he didn’t want to go through another rebuild with the Browns.

Garrett has already endured six losing seasons in eight years, including a winless 0-16 rookie season. Aside from one season, the Browns have consistently finished third or fourth in the AFC North during Garrett's tenure.

Despite hopes for improvement after the acquisition of Deshaun Watson in 2022, the Browns performed better in 2023 under Joe Flacco. After Watson's return in 2024, the team slid back down the rankings and heads into the 2025 NFL draft with the second overall pick.
