Andrew Luck Signs Controversial Indianapolis Colts 'AFC Finalist' Banner on 'Pardon My Take'

Andrew Luck, former quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, recently signed the infamous AFC finalist banner from the Colts' 2014 season during an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast. The Colts had hung the banner after reaching the AFC Championship, only to be crushed by the New England Patriots in the game that sparked the Deflategate controversy.

For years, NFL fans mocked the banner, prompting Colts owner Jim Irsay to have it taken down and sent to the Pardon My Take producers, who are also season ticket holders for the Colts.

Luck, who was a notoriously private figure during his career and avoided social media, admitted that he was largely unaware of the banner’s negative reputation. "I didn’t pay any attention when it was hung or taken down," he said.

Luck also shared some insights about being an NFL quarterback, noting that it requires an intense level of confidence. "When you step on the field, you can't leave any room for doubt," he said, explaining that part of his success was driven by believing in himself fully. "I didn’t do a great job tending to life outside of football, but I didn’t ruin any relationships along the way."

Reflecting on his unexpected retirement announcement in 2019, Luck recalled sensing the moment when ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news during a preseason game. “I felt the cameras turn on me. There was such certainty that something had happened. I knew, 'Oh, [expletive], it's out.'"

He went on to describe how he stayed near the offensive line on the sideline for the remainder of the game before walking off to boos from the Lucas Oil Stadium crowd.

During the interview, Luck also shared a story involving Tiger Woods, where former Stanford football coach David Shaw told him about Woods practicing in the rain, saying, "It doesn't rain enough here. I need to practice in the rain."

Luck, now Stanford football’s general manager, discussed his new role, the transition from a flip phone to a smartphone, coaching insights from Bruce Arians, U.S. soccer, and more about his time with the Colts
