CIA Offers Buyouts to Entire Workforce in Line with Donald Trump’s Priorities: Report

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has extended buyout offers to all of its employees, as part of an effort to realign the agency with the priorities of President Donald Trump, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

The buyouts are in line with Trump’s broader efforts to restructure the U.S. government, aiming to reduce bureaucracy and bring in more loyalists, while sidelining career civil servants.

In addition to the buyouts, the CIA is also halting the hiring of applicants who had previously received conditional offers. A source close to CIA Director John Ratcliffe revealed that some of these offers may be rescinded if applicants’ backgrounds do not align with the agency’s new objectives, which include tackling drug cartels, responding to Trump’s trade war, and countering China.

While the CIA has not disclosed details about its workforce or budget, a CIA spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that the buyout initiative is intended to bring “renewed energy” to the agency.

The buyouts reflect the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to overhaul the U.S. federal workforce. This follows similar moves within the White House, which recently offered buyouts to two million full-time federal employees as part of a plan to reduce the size of the federal workforce while maintaining pay and benefits until September 30.

Unions representing government employees filed a lawsuit last week seeking to block the buyout program.

John Ratcliffe, a former U.S. congressman and Director of National Intelligence during Trump’s first term, was appointed CIA director just days after Trump began his second term. According to the Wall Street Journal, Ratcliffe’s focus at the CIA will shift more toward the Western Hemisphere, including nations that have not traditionally been viewed as U.S. adversaries.
