Bucks Trade Khris Middleton to Wizards for Kyle Kuzma

The Milwaukee Bucks are sending three-time All-Star forward Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards, multiple sources confirmed on Wednesday.

In return, the Bucks will acquire forward Kyle Kuzma. Middleton, who won an NBA championship with Milwaukee in 2021 and a gold medal with the United States at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, has been with the Bucks for his entire career.

Additionally, Milwaukee will send rookie guard A.J. Johnson to Washington, while the Wizards will trade forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., along with a future pick swap and second-round draft compensation, to the Bucks.

Middleton, 33, is in his 12th season with the Bucks. After offseason ankle surgery, he has appeared in just 23 games (seven starts) this season, averaging 12.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.7 rebounds.

In his 762 career games (657 starts), including his rookie year with the Detroit Pistons, Middleton has averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He was selected to the All-Star team in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Middleton, who is set to earn $31.7 million this season, also has a $34 million player option for the next campaign.

The trade sees Middleton move from the Bucks (26-22, 5th in the Eastern Conference) to the Wizards, who are currently at the bottom of the NBA standings with an 8-41 record.

Kuzma, 29, has been averaging 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists this season in 32 games (30 starts). Over his career, including his time with the Los Angeles Lakers (2017-2021), he has averaged 17.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

Kuzma is under contract through the 2026-27 season after signing a four-year, $90 million deal with the Wizards in July 2023.

A.J. Johnson, 20, was drafted 23rd overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He has played seven games off the Bucks' bench, contributing 2.9 points and 6.3 minutes per game
