Dennis Schroder Moves from Miami to Utah After Calling Trade Deadline "Modern Slavery"

Earlier this week, Dennis Schroder sparked controversy by commenting on Luka Doncic's trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Schroder expressed his frustration with the lack of loyalty shown by NBA franchises, comparing it to modern-day slavery.

"It's like modern slavery," Schroder remarked. "At the end of the day, everyone can decide where you go, even if you have a contract. Sure, we make a lot of money and can support our families, but if they decide you're not going to work tomorrow and send you somewhere else, they can make that call. That needs to change."

The day after those comments, Schroder was traded. He was part of a multi-team trade that saw Jimmy Butler head to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson, who were sent to the Miami Heat. Schroder was ultimately moved to the Utah Jazz.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Anderson was initially sent to the Toronto Raptors, but that part of the deal fell through, leaving him either with the Heat or potentially on the move again.

Amid trade rumors and Jimmy Butler's suspension, the Miami Heat have found some bright spots in Tyler Herro's first All-Star selection and rookie Kel'el Ware, who was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January.

After stepping up as the Heat's starting center, Ware impressed, averaging 13 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks, shooting 57% from the field and 45% from three-point range. His standout performance came on January 19 against the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama, where Ware outplayed the highly touted rookie, finishing with 25 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in a win.

Despite his strong performance, Ware was not selected for the Rising Stars event during All-Star weekend, even though he was ranked in the top 10 of the Kia Rookie Ladder at the time.
