Daniel Penny Secures Role at Investment Firm to "Learn the Business of Investing" - Report

Daniel Penny, who was acquitted in December of criminally negligent homicide following a chokehold incident on a New York City subway in response to a man’s violent threats toward other riders, has reportedly secured a position with an investment firm in Silicon Valley to "learn the business of investing."

According to a report by The Free Press, Penny was hired by Andreessen Horowitz, after the firm’s partner, David Ulevitch, confirmed the news in an internal memo.

"He will learn the business of investing, and he will work to support our portfolio companies," Ulevitch wrote in the memo sent to employees on Tuesday.

Andreessen Horowitz has yet to comment on the matter when reached by FOX Business.

Daniel Penny Requests Dismissal of Civil Lawsuit Filed by Jordan Neely's Father

Daniel Penny, seen here in a suit escorted by NYPD officers outside the 5th Precinct in Manhattan, was charged in connection with the death of subway rider Jordan Neely.

The announcement comes just under two months after Penny’s acquittal in the widely publicized and contentious manslaughter trial. Prosecutors had sought to have the manslaughter charge dismissed to prevent a hung jury, and ultimately, Penny was found not guilty on the lesser charge.

Penny, a 26-year-old Marine Corps veteran and architecture student, faced charges for the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man with schizophrenia. Neely had boarded the subway on May 1, 2023, shouting death threats while under the influence of synthetic marijuana, known as K2.

Neely had a criminal history, an active arrest warrant, a history of psychosis, and was also high during the incident. Additionally, he had sickle cell trait.

Firm's Perspective on Penny

Ulevitch also mentioned the May 2023 incident in his memo to the staff.

"I believe, as I know many of you do, that Daniel acted with courage in a tough situation," Ulevitch said. "He was acquitted of all charges. Beyond that, it has always been our policy to evaluate the entire person and not judge them for the worst moment in their entire life."

Ulevitch also shared his vision for Penny’s role at the firm, suggesting that Penny’s experience could help strengthen Andreessen Horowitz's connections with the public safety sector and the Department of Defense.

Penny will reportedly be working within the firm’s American Dynamism practice, which focuses on investing in companies and founders that support the national interest.
