9-1-1: Lone Star Series Finale: Who Died and What Happened to Owen and Tommy

9-1-1: Lone Star Series Finale: Who Died and What Happened to Owen and Tommy?

After five seasons, 9-1-1: Lone Star has concluded, and the finale was an emotional rollercoaster as the 126 faced the aftermath of an asteroid strike on Austin. Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) sustained serious injuries during an explosion at a nuclear reactor, while Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) found a renewed sense of strength to help her city after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, with only days left to live.

But who didn't make it, and what happened to Owen and Tommy?

Behind the Scenes of the Series Finale

Did the asteroid hit? The second-to-last episode left viewers hanging as the firehouse crew took cover under their fire trucks, bracing for an imminent asteroid impact. The finale picks up one hour before the impact, showing what happened in those critical moments.

Dr. Chalmers, a scientist at Travis State University, was on his lunch break after giving a tour to high school students when the alert went out. Rushing back to his control room, he tried to hit the SCRAM button to shut down the nuclear reactor. With only one minute left, he slipped on a wet floor and injured his head, leaving him unable to warn anyone before the asteroid struck.

126 Called to the Nuclear Reactor When communication was restored, the 126 responded to Travis State University. As TK Strand (Ronen Rubinstein) and Nancy Gillian (Brianna Baker) left in their ambulance, Tommy appeared and asked to join them.

At the university, they found Dr. Chalmers, but due to a brain bleed, he couldn't give them the location of the SCRAM button. Tommy, in a desperate move, performed an illegal craniotomy, drilling into his skull to relieve the pressure from the blood. The procedure worked, and Owen received the location of the button. However, the strain took its toll on Tommy, and she collapsed shortly afterward.

The 126 in Danger The team rushed to the control room, but things took a turn for the worse when the cooling tanks failed and exploded. Shrapnel filled the room, injuring all five firefighters.

Despite their injuries, Judd rallied the group, with Mateo suffering a neck injury. The team shared heartfelt words, recognizing each other as their chosen family. "126 forever," they declared, with Mateo humorously adding, "126 for ten more seconds," to which Judd replied, "Mateo, shut up."

Did Owen Die? Despite being gravely injured, Owen pressed on to shut down the reactor. He made it to the control room in the final moments but collapsed just as he did. As members of the Austin Fire Department arrived to assist, Owen was found unconscious. The screen fades to black, leaving it implied that Owen, who was set to leave Austin to lead the New York Fire Department, had passed away.
