Who is Hayden Haynes? Mike Johnson's Chief of Staff Arrested for DUI After Trump Speech

Hayden Haynes, the chief of staff to House Speaker Mike Johnson, was arrested on a DUI charge following President Donald Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday night. According to NBC News, citing two law enforcement sources, the arrest took place after Haynes’ vehicle struck a Capitol Police car around midnight.

The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed the incident, stating, “A driver backed into a parked vehicle last night around 11:40 p.m. We responded and arrested them for DUI.”

Mike Johnson’s office has acknowledged the event. A spokesperson for the Speaker, Taylor Haulsee, provided a statement to NBC News:
“The Speaker is aware of the encounter that occurred last night involving his Chief of Staff and the Capitol Police. The Speaker has known and worked closely with Hayden for nearly a decade and trusted him to serve as his Chief of Staff throughout his tenure in Congress. Due to this longstanding relationship and Hayden’s respected reputation among colleagues, the Speaker has full faith and confidence in Hayden’s ability to continue leading the Speaker’s office.”

Who is Hayden Haynes?
Hayden Haynes is a seasoned aide to Speaker Mike Johnson. A Louisiana native, he began his career as the Grassroots Campaign Manager for Sherri Smith. Haynes later worked for former Senator David Vitter in various capacities from 2009 to 2016.

In 2016, he played a pivotal role in Mike Johnson’s successful campaign for Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, serving as both campaign manager and spokesperson.

From 2017 to 2023, Haynes was the chief of staff in Johnson’s personal office. After Johnson was elected Speaker of the House in October 2023, Haynes was appointed chief of staff in the Speaker's office. According to his LinkedIn profile, Haynes holds a degree in politics from Gonzaga University.
