Oscars 2025: Mick Jagger Receives Standing Ovation and Playfully Roasts Bob Dylan on Stage
Mick Jagger was met with a standing ovation at the 2025 Oscars as he took the stage to present the award for Best Original Song. The legendary rock star added a touch of humor to the evening, playfully taking a jab at Bob Dylan.
At the 97th Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Mick Jagger’s appearance was met with enthusiastic applause as he presented the Oscar for Best Original Song. The audience, recognizing the iconic Rolling Stones frontman, gave him a warm and well-deserved standing ovation, acknowledging his lasting impact on music and culture.
True to his charismatic style, Jagger lightened the mood with a witty remark about Bob Dylan's absence, saying, "Bob Dylan declined to present the song Oscar because the best songs of the year were obviously in A Complete Unknown."
The joke was a playful nod to the biographical film A Complete Unknown, which tells the story of Dylan's early career and had earned eight nominations, including Best Picture.
The nominees for Best Original Song included: "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez, "Mi Camino" from Emilia Pérez, "Never Too Late" by Elton John, "Like a Bird" from Sing Sing, and "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight.
Emilia Pérez, a musical film exploring themes of identity and transformation, led the nominations with 13 nods, including two for Best Original Song. The film's score was composed by French duo Clément Ducol and Camille.
When Jagger announced "El Mal" as the winner, Ducol and Camille took the stage to accept their first Academy Award. In her acceptance speech, Camille emphasized the song’s message against corruption and the role of music and art in fostering progress and positive change.
