"Her Entire Body Was Shaking": Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh Talk 'Deli Boys' Funniest Moment and Tease MCU Return
In an exclusive interview with Collider, Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh reminisce about the funniest behind-the-scenes moment from Deli Boys, particularly a chaotic scene from Episode 8. The two also share their excitement about the show’s success and tease a potential return to the MCU.
The hilarious crime-comedy Deli Boys follows two naïve Pakistani-American brothers as they inherit their father’s deadly criminal empire. The show’s blend of humor and high-stakes drama has made it one of 2025’s standout series. In a conversation with Collider, Ali and Shaikh reveal the behind-the-scenes shenanigans that made them realize the show was something special, as well as their hopes for a future crossover in the MCU.
The Funniest Behind-the-Scenes Moment on 'Deli Boys'
In Episode 8 of Deli Boys, titled "Sweaty Boys," tensions hit a boiling point as the brothers are forced to confront the dangers of their inherited crime world. One intense standoff inside the deli sees Prairie (Alfie Fuller) trying to flee after revealing her FBI informant status. But as Prairie attempts to escape, Lucky Aunty (Poorna Jagannathan) struggles to pull the trigger of her gun, causing a hilarious behind-the-scenes moment.
Shaikh describes how Jagannathan's thumb was too weak to operate the prop gun, and they worked on the scene for a long time. “Poorna’s whole body was shaking because she couldn’t get her thumb to push the thing down,” says Shaikh, with Ali joking, “We’re going to get her on ‘roids before Season 2.”
The Cast Knew 'Deli Boys' Was Special Early On
For Ali and Shaikh, the magic of Deli Boys wasn’t just in the script or the plot—it was in the chemistry among the cast. From the very beginning, they felt something unique about the show. Shaikh admits he had doubts during the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023, but when they returned to set to film Episode 2, he says, “It just felt like, ‘This is going to be a thing. This is going to work.’”
Ali recalls knowing the show had potential during the downtime between takes when the cast would hang out and enjoy each other's company. “Even with the pilot, and certainly when we were shooting the rest of the season, it just felt like we wanted to be around each other,” says Ali. He credits the casting director for the success of their on-screen relationship. “When you hire actors, you don’t know if they’ll get along. But for this, it just clicked.”
Will Saagar Shaikh Return to the MCU?
Both Ali and Shaikh have ties to the MCU, with Shaikh’s character, Yusuf Khan from Ms. Marvel, set to return in Daredevil: Born Again and Ali appearing in WandaVision. When asked if they might share screen time in the MCU, Shaikh jokes, “I wish! I have my email notifications on. I’ve been asking them, and they’ve been ghosting me.”
Ali teases Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige with a playful message: “Hey, Kevin, if you’re watching this... We know you’re always watching us, but you never hit ‘like’ on our posts.”
Shaikh pitches a potential cameo, suggesting, “Let’s do a little Norm and Aamir in The Avengers.” Ali adds, “We can just be hanging out.” Shaikh jokingly concludes, “Honestly, kill us off in The Avengers. You’ll never have to use us again.”
As the Marvel multiverse continues to expand, it seems anything is possible, and fans are eager to see if the two will ever make their MCU return.
