Music composer Pritam has come forward to defend Blackpink's Jennie amid allegations of plagiarism, following claims that her recent song teaser resembled Alia Bhatt's theme song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The controversy ignited after fans pointed out the similarities between Jennie's new teaser, Like Jennie, and the theme used for Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani, in Karan Johar’s film.
In response to the backlash, Pritam, who composed music for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, dismissed the plagiarism accusations, emphasizing that minor similarities in music are normal. He explained that slight resemblances in melody, phrasing, or rhymes often occur, especially within the same genre, and should not be considered as copying.
Pritam took to social media to defend Jennie, stating, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen. Instead of focusing on tiny details, it’s important to see the bigger picture.” He further noted that in today’s interconnected world, artists often share platforms and influences, making intentional plagiarism highly unlikely. "Creating a song takes immense effort, and if an artist truly resonates with an idea, they can simply collaborate," he added.
He concluded by urging fans to support artists and celebrate their work rather than tearing them down. "Music is about creativity, unique artistic perspectives, influences, and sometimes pure coincidence—especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength," Pritam said. He also wished Jennie the best for her upcoming album.
While Jennie’s team has yet to respond to the plagiarism claims, many fans have observed the similarities in the music, noting the shared thumping beats and rhythmic tone in both tracks.
